The first thing that one might think when looking at the photographs that TENAA (an Asian official body) has published for the certification of a new ZTE mobile is that we are facing a terminal apparently built on a metal casing. And it is true, but if we look more in detail, what we will appreciate is that ZTE has just certified a smartphone that does not incorporate any main camera (and, apparently, no front camera either). This mobile has been certified under the name of ZTE S3003 and, of course, the controversy is served.
As we can see from the photos of the Asian certification echoed by the Mobipicker.com website, ZTE has developed a smartphone that completely dispenses with cameras. And apparently it seems that we are not talking about a prototype, but about a terminal that, having been certified on September 16, could see the light on the market very soon. In fact, the certification also reveals its measures, and confirms that the ZTE S3003 come with dimensions of 142.2 í- 70.6 í- 7.4 mm and a metal housing with a weight very content 117 grams (Thanks to the elimination of the two cameras?).
We can even talk about technical specifications. As disclosed in certification, the ZTE S3003 incorporates a screen five inches with 1280 x 720 pixels (resulting in a pixel density of 294 ppi), and feeds on a processor of four cores which achieves a clock speed 1.5 GHz. As indicated from GizBot.com, we can guess that it is a processor Snapdragon 615 from Qualcomm that would be accompanied by a graphics processor Adreno 405. RAM memory capacity is 1 GigaByte, while the internal storage space reaches 8 GigaBytes (we do not know if it is expandable). In addition, it also supports connectivity 4G LTE for ultra-fast Internet.
From here, we can make all kinds of speculation about the reason that has led ZTE to develop a smartphone without cameras. The most obvious thing is to think about a cost reduction aimed at allowing this terminal to come with an affordable starting price for all budgets, but… would a mobile of these characteristics really have space in the market? Even eliminating the camera, we must not forget that we are talking about a mobile that incorporates an HD screen, a metal casing, a Qualcomm processor and 8 GigaBytes of internal memory, so there is hardly room to reduce the sale price below the 50 dollars.
