People have been talking about YotaPhone for some time, an Android smartphone that stands out for having two screens (one on each back), and is finally available for purchase through the official Yota Devices website at a price of 499 euros. After its already distant presentation at the past Mobile World Congress last February, five are the lucky countries that will not have to wait any longer, including ours: Spain, France, Germany, Austria and Russia.Throughout the first quarter of 2014 it is expected to arrive in another 15 countries, and if you want to buy it in physical stores, for the moment it is only possible to do so in Russia and Germany.
Available in black or white, it is the first terminal to incorporate an electronic ink screen, similar to that of electronic book readers (eBooks). This second screen is always on, since this type of technology hardly consumes energy and thus is useful to consult the mobile without having to turn on the main screen (in addition to serving for a more comfortable reading of texts, of course, as it is not backlit). In this way, and according to manufacturer data, its autonomy is between seven and ten times higher than that of other smartphones on the market.
In addition, the electronic ink screen, whose resolution is 360 x 460 pixels, is used to send a series of curious messages when performing certain actions. For example, if we are going to take a photo, whoever is in front of us will see a message asking them to smile, or when the alarm goes off, the news sources that we have configured in their RSS feed reader will be automatically loaded, like this such as weather information and time. Likewise, alerts will be displayed on it when we are not using the phone, and it is even possible to view photos with just a two-finger swipe from the traditional interface. It should be noted, of course, that this second screen only has touch capabilities in its lower part, as it is primarily intended for reading.
The main screen, 4.3 inches and 720 x 1,280 points of resolution, also debuts a Corning Gorilla 3- type glass, and opts for control through gestures instead of the traditional Android button system. Inside, we find a 1.7 GHz dual-core Krait processor, 2 gigabytes of RAM and 32 gigabyte internal storage, and the phone is compatible with HSPA and LTE networks. The rear camera is 13 megapixels and the front stays in 1 megapixel, while the mounted battery has 1800 mAhcapacity. To finish with the list of technical characteristics, its dimensions are 133.6 x 67 x 10 mm and its weight reaches 146 grams. As for the pre-installed Android version, it is Jelly Bean 4.2.2.
In short, some not exactly leading-edge features for the price demanded, in which the novelty of the double screen clearly affects.
