No need to continue reading rumors, we finally have the Redmi K20 among us. A terminal that comes from the hand of Redmi, an independent sub-brand of Xiaomi, and that maintains a price policy for all budgets. The Redmi K20 is intended for the premium mid-range, it is closer to the high-end. This is thanks to its integrated on-screen fingerprint reader, “pop up” camera, triple rear camera and noble materials construction.
The Redmi K20 has arrived to shake the rest of the terminals in its sector, but it does not arrive alone. He is also accompanied by a Redmi K20 Pro calling himself "Flagship Killer 2.0" referring to the beginnings of OnePlus, this older brother will try to compete against the high-end, he will have to face the OnePlus 7 Pro, Huawei P30, Samsung Galaxy S10 + but his trump card is the price. We are going to talk about the one that interests us, we tell you all the details of the Redmi K20.

Frameless design with pop-up camera
The mid-range terminals have little to envy of the high-end in terms of design and construction. The difference has been reduced almost to a minimum, although it is true that the high-end is the one that innovates while the mid-range picks up the remains of this innovation. We have spent years of continuous innovation to achieve frameless fronts, everything has been tried. From the hole in the screen as in the Samsung Galaxy S10, to sliding phones as in the Mi Mix 3. But it has been seen that for the moment the best solution is a retractable camera, also called "pop up".
The Redmi K20 mounts this technological and design wonder, with this it achieves a front free of notch or notch. This retractable system takes 0.8 seconds to unfold the camera and with a resistance of up to 300,000 uses. It has not been specified if it has any protection system like the one we have seen in the OnePlus 7 Pro or the Oppo Reno. In principle, it is assumed that it would integrate something similar to avoid being hit in possible falls.
The inclusion of a retractable camera gives the Redmi K20 a virtually frameless design. On this front is the 6.39-inch AMOLED panel with Full HD + resolution (2,340 x 1,080) in 19.5: 9 format. Redmi debuts by mounting an AMOLED panel on their terminals, they usually mount IPS screens like the one we see in the Redmi Note 7. This panel will show more vivid colors and real blacks, you can enjoy multimedia content without any problem.
When turning the Redmi K20 we see a rear with personality, the colors have been degraded and they have a diluted paint appearance. It is built in glass and the terminal frames in metal, first-class materials for a smartphone dedicated to the mid-range. The triple camera would be housed at the rear, located in the center and positioned vertically accompanied by a dual-tone LED flasher just below. The logo of the brand, Redmi, would appear right at the end of the terminal.
In the metal frames there is the keypad, placed entirely on the right side. The unlock button below the volume controls. We do not see a fingerprint reader either behind or on the sides, the fingerprint reader is integrated into the screen and is optical. A similar operation to that of terminals like the OnePlus 6T or even like its older brother the OnePlus 7 is expected. In the lower frame we have all the connections: USB type C, headphone jack.
Gross power for a mid-range Redmi with NFC
Unlike its older brother, the Redmi K20 mounts a mid-range processor. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 730, with eight cores and accompanied by an Adreno 618 GPU. To this set, Redmi adds 6 or 6 GB of RAM and two options for storage, 64 or 128GB. Resulting in two combinations, 6GB of RAM with 64GB of storage and 6GB of RAM with 128GB of storage.
This processor is created to move a new generation of mid-range terminals, it has a power comparable to that of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835. It is expected that it will be able to move any type of game at an acceptable frame rate or power with any heavy application. Without a doubt, for the day to day of any user it will be more than enough. The gamer section has been improved via software with the inclusion of a specific mode: Game Turbo 2.0. This mode will control resources and allocate more power or memory to certain games that need it.
Despite Redmi being an independent company, it is still under the arm of Xiaomi. We notice this, and we appreciate it, in the operating system. It comes standard with Android 9 Pie under MIUI 10, those familiar with this layer will know of its many benefits both in customization and performance. All this power without a large capacity battery would not make sense, Redmi knows it, that's why it has mounted 4,000 mAh. An amperage more than enough for a day or day and a half. In the case of not being up to date or needing a little push to continue the day, we can use a fast charge of 18W.
The Redmi K20 has NFC, oddly enough. The Asian firm has finally included this connectivity in its mid-range. Apart from NFC, it is well served in general terms: 4G LTE, WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, Dual GPS, and so on. It is a positive thing to see the inclusion of NFC in a terminal with these characteristics, since many users did not decide to buy a Redmi for the simple fact of not being able to use Google Pay on the mobile.
The triple camera is in fashion
The photographic set consists of three rear cameras and a front camera hidden inside the terminal. The three rear cameras fulfill different functions, the main 48 megapixel sensor is in charge of taking the photos in any type of situation. While the secondary 13 megapixel is intended to be a wide angle and the third 8 megapixel to serve as a zoom for situations that require it. It is a combination that we have already seen in other terminals, in the absence of testing them Redmi promises more than solvent results.
The front camera hidden in the terminal mounts a 20 megapixel sensor, it will offer definition and quality for the occasional selfies. In addition, all these cameras have the Redmi add-ons in the camera application. We will have HDR or high dynamic range, Full HD recording modes at different frame rates per second, Artificial Intelligence to make the appropriate adjustments to each situation.
Price and availability
The Redmi K20 does not have an official landing date on the peninsula. At the moment it has not been commented on whether it will reach the European market, we certainly hope that it will. If it arrives, it would start from more than competitive prices if we take into account its characteristics. In China, its versions are priced at 259 euros to change for the 6GB / 64GB model and 272 euros for the 6GB / 128GB model.
