If you look at the previous image and observe the current trend in telephony, you will come to the conclusion that the screens are increasingly the real protagonists of the front. To do this, both Xiaomi and the rest of the manufacturers devise strategies so that the frames are smaller and smaller without distracting elements. In the mobile of the photograph, Xiaomi Redmi Note 7, the company included a notch in the shape of a drop of water to house the front camera.
Samsung developed what it calls an Infinity-O display panel with a hole in the screen to include the selfie sensor. Now what could be next? From LetsGoDigital they inform us of two patents that Xiaomi has applied for at the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office), which show a smartphone with an almost infinite screen. In the first patent a terminal has been registered that seems to be the opposite of what we know today: with a notch at the bottom instead of at the top. In it would be hidden a double sensor for selfies. Logically, the objective of this investment would be that the user could enjoy more of the screen, since at first glance the notch bothers much less below than above.
The second patent has many similarities to the first, although with an obvious change in the screen that marks the entire design. On this model there is also room for a notch at the bottom of the screen. However, now it is not positioned in the center, if not on both sides of the device. That is, there would be two mini notches in each lower corner that would also function as a double front camera.
It is difficult to predict whether or not Xiaomi intends to launch a new terminal using either of these two patents. What seems clear is that the different companies continue to think of new solutions so that the secondary camera bothers as little as possible in the front part, and that the panel gains more space. In any case, in the future it will remain below the screen, as is happening right now with the fingerprint reader.
