We already knew in advance that 5G was going to be one of the main protagonists of this year's MWC in Barcelona. And the first presentations are showing it. Just a few minutes ago Xiaomi presented the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G, a special edition of the Mi MIX 3 that we already know but with compatibility for 5G networks. In reality it is the same terminal that we met at the end of last year, but with an updated processor to be compatible with the new mobile networks.
That is, we have a terminal with a 6.39-inch OLED screen and a front and rear dual camera system. In addition, it sports the same sliding system as the "normal" version of the Mi MIX 3, but in a curved ceramic body. This makes the front all screen, this time for real. It will hit the market in May with a price of 600 euros. Let's get to know its characteristics better.
Ceramic body and new processor
The "new" Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G will arrive with few but important news. The first we will see in the design, since this model will have the ceramic finish of the top versions of the Mi MIX 3. This ceramic body has rounded corners on four sides and a series 7 aluminum frame.
Otherwise, the design remains largely intact. We have a 6.39-inch OLED screen with a FHD + resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 pixels. This screen has a sliding magnetic system that hides the front cameras. That is to say, we are facing a terminal that is all screen, since it does not have any type of notch or hole in the panel.
Inside, the big news is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor. The processor change was necessary to achieve 5G connectivity and, incidentally, to offer a little more power.
What is achieved with 5G connectivity? As explained by Xiaomi herself, 5G networks reach a speed of 2 Gbps. This translates into, to give us an idea, being able to download a 256 MB file in one second. It also offers, among other things, the possibility of making video calls totally fluid and with high quality from anywhere on the planet.
In addition to the new processor, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 has 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. Also a 3,800 milliamp battery.
The set is completed by a dual camera system at the rear and front. As the main camera we have a double system formed by two 12 megapixel sensors with aperture f / 1.8 and f / 2.4. The front camera is also double, with a 24-megapixel sensor that is accompanied by a 2-megapixel sensor.
Price and availability
The Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G will hit the market next May with an official price of 600 euros. It will be available in two colors, black and blue.
