Now that the Xiaomi Mi A3 has been officially presented, its direct comparison with its predecessors is inevitable. And it is that despite the fact that we are facing a new generation, the third iteration of the A family represents an involution in some of the main characteristics that have historically defined the brand's mobiles. In front we find the Mi A2 and the Mi A2 Lite, two mobiles that today are still more than interesting proposals to be introduced in Android One. Which mobile is more worth buying between the Xiaomi Mi A3 vs Xiaomi Mi A2 vs Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite? We see it below.

Design
Following in the wake of other terminals of the brand, Xiaomi has decided to implement a design very similar to the Mi 9 in its new mid-range. Metal and glass construction with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 and 5 protection and waterdrop notch design; Compared to the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite and the Mi A2, the terminal has a higher frontal utilization percentage.
Xiaomi Mi A2
If we move to the dimensions of the three terminals, the Mi A2 Lite is the phone with the smallest size, having a 5.8-inch screen and an island-shaped notch design that is somewhat more generous than that of the Mi A3. Paradoxically, the Mi A2 Lite is the heaviest terminal of the three, with almost 180 grams behind it. The Mi A2, for its part, is the least heavy, with only 168 grams. Part of the reason for this is due to the construction materials, based on metal and plastic in the case of the A2 Lite and metal and glass in the case of the A2.
Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite
Finally, it should be noted the absence of a physical fingerprint sensor in the Mi A3, when it is located under the screen. The Mi A2 Lite and the Mi A2 opt for its implementation in the center of the rear case. The camera is another aspect that evolves in the last generation, having no less than three sensors.
screen
The screen is possibly the most controversial aspect of the Mi A3, as it has an AMOLED panel with a Pentile matrix and all the problems that this entails. The screen resolution is another reason why the Mi A3 is below the Mi A2 and the Mi A2 Lite.
Specifically, the Mi A3 has an HD + panel with a pixel density per inch of only 282 points, far behind the more than 400 dpi of the A2 Lite and the A2 that the Full HD + panel throws at us. The technology also varies compared to the latest iteration of the A series; specifically IPS LCD versus the AMOLED matrix of the A3.
Higher definition, better color representation, a higher brightness level and more achieved viewing angles are the main differences between the screens of the Xiaomi Mi A3 vs Xiaomi Mi A2 vs Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite.
Processor and memory
One of the most controversial sections of the Mi A3 next to the section of the screen. Part of the reason for this is due to its Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor and its RAM capacity of just 4 GB. Compared to the Snapdragon 660 in the Mi A2, the performance is identical in both cases, although the Mi A3 has a somewhat more advanced graphics for graphics and gaming processing and a more optimized manufacturing process to improve autonomy. Of the Mi A2 it is worth noting the presence of a version with no less than 6 GB of RAM.
Another aspect that differentiates the Mi A3 from the Mi A2 and the Mi A2 Lite is the internal storage. We start with a capacity of 64 GB compared to 32 GB for the Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite. Its technology also evolves, as it is based on the UFS 2.1 standard compared to the eMMC 5.1 of the previous ones. Unfortunately, the Mi A2 does not have expansion through micro SD cards, unlike the Mi A3 and Mi A2 Lite, compatible with expansions up to 256GB.
And what about the Lite version? Here we do find a clear difference in performance, having a 620 series processor; specifically the 625. The RAM memory capacity is also reduced in its version to 3 GB, although there is another version with up to 4 GB.
Photographic section
In this new generation, Xiaomi has decided to bet all its assets on the camera, or rather on the cameras. Three 48, 8 and 2 megapixel sensors with wide-angle and "depth" lenses, in the words of the company, is what we find in the Mi A3. The focal aperture ranges from f / 1.79 of the main sensor to f / 2.2 of the angular sensor, of no less than 118º.
Moving to the second iteration, the Mi A2 and the Mi A2 Lite have two cameras of 20 and 12 megapixels and 12 and 5 megapixels with focal apertures f / 1.75 and f / 1.75 in the A2 and f / 1.9 and f / 2.2 in the A2 Lite.. Beyond technical data, the main differences are found in the definition of the images, the brightness of the sensor and the versatility that the telephoto lens of the Mi A3 offers us. In scenes with portrait mode or with Artificial Intelligence applied we do not expect big differences.
As for the front sensor, here the differences are even more notable. The Mi A3 has a 32-megapixel sensor with f / 2.0 focal aperture, well ahead of the 20 and 5-megapixel sensors with f / 2.0 and f / 2.2 focal aperture of the Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite. Greater definition is what the specifications of the sensor of the A3 predict.
Connectivity and autonomy
Unlike the screen or the processor, the Xiaomi Mi A3 has inherited the main virtues of the Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite: the battery and connectivity. A 4,030 mAh module that, together with a low screen resolution and the manufacturing process, becomes the best option of the three in terms of autonomy. For their part, the Mi A2 Lite and the Mi A2 have 4,000 and 3,010 mAh batteries.
Another evolution that we find compared to last year's models has to do with fast charging technology. Compatible with Quick Charge 3.0, the Mi A3 supports loads of up to 18 W, the same technology implemented in the Mi A2. The Lite version, on the other hand, does not have any type of fast charging technology, and unfortunately, we do not find fast charging chargers in any of the cases.
Moving on to the connectivity section, the Mi A3 has the same characteristics as the Mi A2. Dual band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, FM radio and infrared sensor for the TV are some of the main specifications of the Mi A2 vs Mi A3. The Mi A2 Lite, for its part, has Bluetooth 4.2 and a somewhat more limited version of WiFi. None of them have NFC for mobile payments.
Conclusions and price
We finally reached the conclusions, which are defined directly by the price. Currently we can find the Mi A3 for a price that in its most basic version starts at 249 euros. In the other part of the ring we find the Mi A2 Lite and the Mi A2, whose prices on Amazon and the official store start at 119 and 152 euros respectively. Is it worth buying the Xiomi Mi A3 vs Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite vs Xiaomi Mi A2? From our point of view, no.
The price difference in both cases reaches more than 10 euros, and unless we prioritize aspects such as design or cameras, the Mi A3 is still not recommended, even more so when the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 starts at 170 euros in some stores from Amazon. To this are added the shortcomings of the screen and the absence of the NFC.
In any case, from Tuexperto.com we recommend waiting for the price of the Mi A3 to drop to more competitive levels if what we want is to acquire the terminal in question.
