Microsoft Surface wouldn't be the Redmond company's only foray into the tablet sector. Some internal sources have revealed that the company would be working on a new model and that it would be focused on the world of video games. Its name: Xbox Surface.
In the middle of last June, a new Microsoft project was presented on the table: a tablet that was based on the Xbox gaming platform and that would lead the software giant to get back into a project focused on mobility. And, above all, thinking about the new market that is opening with the new launches within the seven-inch size.
Although Microsoft commented weeks ago that it would not be willing to create models of touch tablets smaller than 10 inches to have the new icons installed: Windows RT or "" in some cases "" Windows 8 Pro. However, The Verge portal has been echoed some internal information that comments that the project is going ahead and that it could see the light in the coming months.
This Xbox Surface wouldn't use any of the known versions of Windows 8; its design would be completely personalized, although logically based on the Windows operating system. In other words: the same would happen as Amazon's Kindle Fire models that are based on Google's Android, although they show a total customization that makes the company's services fully implemented in the system.
On the other hand, in the middle of this year a specification sheet came to light. It showed this Xbox Surface that it would have a seven-inch screen achieving a maximum resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels ( HD resolution). Microsoft would bet on this size to achieve a much lighter transport of the equipment and allowing the user to carry it at any time.
On the other hand, the connections that were specified in this leak only commented on Bluetooth and WiFi technologies, leaving aside 3G networks. Also, it would also have several USB 3.0 ports "" four to be exact "" and an HDMI output that suggests that it will be possible to connect to larger screens and use the tablet as if it were a remote control.
And speaking of controls, the Xbox Surface could support, simultaneously, up to four wireless controls; that is, a whole portable leisure center. However, and as in the Amazon platform, the rumored Microsoft tablet would also be compatible with different instant messaging platforms as well as, and according to The Verge , with some functions that are usually present on all tablets: being able to navigate over the Internet and play multimedia files.
Finally, Microsoft has already been asked about this new project, and has been reluctant to confirm or deny the rumor that has been generated within the company.
