- Price 47 euros
The Vodafone Smart First 6 becomes the new basic terminal in the Vodafone mobile catalog. A simple team that bets on a 4-inch panel and comes with just enough to experience the Android universe. In its guts we find a dual-core processor along with an internal memory of 4 GB, which can be expanded by up to another 32 GB if we use the equipment as a player for our music library. In addition, it supports 3G HSPA + networks at maximum speeds of up to 21 Mbps to quickly browse the Internet or download files. This device is available for a starting price of47 euros if we buy it free, although it can also be paid in installments if we acquire a commitment to stay with Vodafone. We tell you all the details about this basic smartphone.
Design and display
This mobile designed by Alcatel has an aspect in which simplicity prevails and the idea of creating a compact and easy-to-use device. Although initially it will only be available in black, it is likely that Vodafone Spain will also offer it in white in the following weeks. To promote grip, a slightly curved shell and shallow corners have been chosen. One of the few differentiating details that we find in this equipment is the placement of the speaker in a horizontal line just to the right of the rear camera. It remains to be seen how this idea works when playing content such as music when the equipment is perched on a table or a smooth surface.
As for the screen, it has opted for a TFT panel compact 4 inches with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. This resolution yields a density of 233 dots per inch and a good level of detail when browsing with the mobile, viewing photos or using its simple apps and games. Of course, due to its size, it is not a device that is very oriented to viewing videos and movies.
Photographic camera
At this point there are no surprises. The camera is usually the first section that suffers when you want to create a phone with a very affordable price, and the Vodafone Smart First 6 is no exception. This terminal only has a 3 megapixel rear lens without flash or autofocus. A camera that will serve to get out of the way in some moment of need and create the odd funny snapshot, but little else. By the way, it is capable of recording video in standard VGA quality.
Memory and power
Inside the guts of this model we find a dual-core MediaTek processor with a power of 1 GHz per core. This chip joins a RAM memory of just 512 MB to create a fairly humble set designed to run simple apps and games on the Android platform. As for the internal memory, it is placed at 4 GB,a capacity that seems quite successful to us to be able to store our personal files and apps. In principle, this memory should be sufficient if we do not plan to use this phone as a player for our music library or if we do not install too many applications. If needed, the space can be expanded by another 32 GB (maximum) thanks to a MicroSD memory card. And if we do not want to spend, another interesting option is to use an online storage system such as Dropbox or Google Drive.
Operating system and applications
The Smart First 6 bets on the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. Here one more push is needed to integrate Android 5.0 Lollipop as in the case of its older brothers Vodafone Smart Prime 6 or Vodafone Smart Ultra 6, but its technical limitations have probably had a lot to do with this decision. The great advantage of betting on KitKat is that this operating system was conceived from the beginning as a platform that was capable of operating without problems both the most advanced and the most humble equipment, with a very notable improvement in the performance of the menus and the processes. And of course, this platform opens a door to a very wide universe of applications, with more than a million and a half titles in the official Google store. Names like Candy Crush Saga, Minecraft, Facebook or Twitter join a long etcetera to allow us to personalize the mobile phone to our liking. Google has also done its part with useful tools such as YouTube to watch our favorite videos, Google Maps to navigate anywhere or Gmail to manage our email.
Connectivity and multimedia
This was the point that could generate more doubts, but Vodafone decided not to include compatibility with 4G networks in this terminal so as not to increase its price. The Vodafone Smart First 6 is capable of connecting to 3G HSPA + networks of up to 21 Mbps. At home we can use WiFi connectivity to save mobile data. We also have Bluetooth 4.0 to synchronize compatible equipment and transfer data to other smartphones and GPS to locate ourselves on the map or navigate with apps such as Google Maps or Waze.Connections are completed with a MicroUSB port to carry out uploading and file sharing with the computer. In the multimedia field, the most interesting feature is the FM radio tuner, which will allow fans of the airwaves to listen to their favorite station while on the move.
Autonomy, price and opinions
The Vodafone Smart First 6 uses a 1,400 milliamp battery . According to the data of the operator, that should give us for eight hours of conversation and up to 600 hours of standby. Its price if we buy it without obligation amounts to 47 euros, but we can also take advantage of the hiring of a rate to lower the price even more. Of course, with a 24-month commitment to stay . For example, with the Mini S and Smart S rates, the initial fee is 19 euros and then you would have to pay an additional 1 euro each month. With the Smart M rate, you have to pay 9 euros at the beginning and 1 euro each month, while with the other rates (RED M, RED L and RED XL) there is no initial payment and the monthly fee is placed at 1 euro.
In short, this is a very simple model designed for users who want to try a smartphone for the first time or those who do not need many functionalities on their equipment beyond making calls, browsing the web or using WhatsApp.
