Vodafone becomes the first operator to offer 5G technology in Spain, anticipating the commercial launch for next June 15 in 15 cities in our country. This places it above rivals such as Orange or Telefónica, who have decided to wait some more time. In addition, Vodafone's 5G roaming coverage in the United Kingdom, Germany and Italy will be available this summer, as Antonio Coimbra, CEO of the company in Spain, has revealed.
The Spanish cities chosen to carry out this deployment are Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Malaga, Zaragoza, Bilbao, Vitoria, San Sebastián, Coruña, Vigo, Gijón, Pamplona, Logroño and Santander. Users with compatible devices will be able to download data with a speed of up to 1 GB, reaching up to 2 GB by the end of the year. This is a figure that multiplies 4G speeds by ten, with a latency reduction of up to 5 milliseconds, which will be key to using applications related to virtual reality or real-time apps.
The Vodafone 5G service will be included in the Vodafone Unlimited Total (50 euros per month) and Vodafone One Unlimited Total (110 euros per month) rates. All customers of the operator with any of these plans will be able to enjoy 5G from June 15 in any of the aforementioned cities. All this without paying an extra extra. Logically, for this they will need a terminal compatible with the technology. Currently, Vodafone has some 5G models in its catalog. We can mention among them the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, LG V50 ThinQ 5G and Xiaomi Mi MIX3 5G.
To all this must be added Vodafone's agreement with Hatch, the first cloud gaming platform for 5G networks. The streaming games of the Finnish Hatch on the Vodafone network will give users the possibility to play instantly, without ads that interrupt the game. Hatch's catalog includes more than 160 games on mobile to date. Also, Hatch premium users can participate in live tournaments, being able to chat or share impressions with each other simultaneously. Among some of the titles available in Hatch Premium we can mention: Space Invaders, Sonic, The Hedgehog, Monument Valley, Angry Birds or Hitman GO.
