It seems that this year more people have incorporated the word smartphone into their language. At least, this is demonstrated by a recent study that reveals that sales of these types of phones increased in the second quarter of 2010 by 118 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
The fact that these devices are more expensive than conventional mobiles (which during the months included in that period also experienced a notable decrease in their prices) has not been an obstacle for users to have seen in smartphones the desired choice to bring together many of the functions that, until then, had been assigned to other devices.
It has been the Multisectoral Association of Information Technology, Communications and Electronics (Asimelec), responsible for the survey, which detailed that during the second quarter of the year led to sell a total of 762,729 smart phones.
This represents fifteen percent of the total number of mobile phones sold during that period, a total that represented almost half of the turnover less than traditional terminals (represented by a four percent decrease in units sold in this category).
However , the study does not establish a relationship between the explosive rise in the penetration of the smartphone in the general market and the reasons that push the user to decide on this technology, even knowing that it is more expensive than that of traditional terminals.
A study earlier conducted in the United States defined the intention of customers to group profits in a single device, although the popularization of touch terminals and the interest aroused the advanced mobile operating systems are also among the suspects as sharp increase on the demand.
