With more than three years on the market, the Samsung Galaxy S7 has witnessed how its family has evolved, to the point that little by little it has been left behind. This is something that is beginning to show, not only in features and design, but also when it comes to receiving updates. In fact, it is planned that the S7 cannot be updated to Android 9 Pie, at least not officially. Anyone who wants to enjoy this version of the system on their device will have to resort to a third-party ROM.
If you have a Samsung Galaxy S7 and do not want to run out of your portion of Pie, you will have no choice but to carry out the update through a ROM. These firmwares are not developed by the manufacturer, in this case Samsung itself, but are created (or rather modified) by developers. Therefore, it will not be as simple as going to the settings section, about the device, system updates to see if the update is already available for download. You will have to install this ROM yourself, following the instructions to the letter.
ROM for Android
There are different websites that publish ROMs for Samsung mobiles. You just have to enter them and find out if Android 9 Pie is available for your model number. The list is updated almost daily, so you just have to be aware.
LineageOS
LineageOS, formerly known as CyanogenMod, is the reference website for those who want to extend the useful life of their terminals to infinity or beyond. Recently, its managers announced the appearance of LineageOS 16.0, a version based on Android 9.0 Pie, which started with official support for 31 devices. However, many more models have been included over the weeks, including the Samsung Galaxy S7, with an exclusive version for each team.
Paranoid Android
Although it has been out of the picture for quite some time, Paranoid Android has made a strong comeback recently with a first version based on Android Pie. A large number of mobiles have already been included in your list. You can see the list of compatible phones here, although for now there is no trace of the Samsung Galaxy S7.
CarbonROM
It is a very active page and one of the ones with the most stable ROMs that come out. You can check all the compatible models here.
Sammobile
The good thing about this page is that it allows you to download firmware for Samsung devices exclusively. The downside is that you will only find official Samsung ROMs in it, either from the manufacturer itself or from a specific operator. An Android 9 update is not scheduled for the Galaxy S7, as we have been saying, but in case it happens, or if you have another Samsung device, it is worth knowing about it.
Of course, before proceeding to download it asks you to register, and you will also have a download speed limit. All SamMobile firmware is in ZIP file and can be flashed through the Odin PC program. For a faster search, just enter the model number of your Galaxy S7 in the search engine enabled by SamMobile. You can find it in Settings, More, About device, Model number.
Whether you have a Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 edge, or any other model, we recommend that you take a look at the Samsung Members page, where all the company's devices that are scheduled to be updated to Android 9 Pie are published.
