The telephone operator Másmóvil has just published a study in which it describes the use of the mobile that we do in Spain. As reflected in this report, Spaniards speak an average of 183 minutes per month, consume 1,198 MB of data and send 5 traditional SMS messages.
Voice calls increase drastically in mobile use
The study collects the uses of more than 300,000 mobile phone customers throughout Spain. Thus, it reflects that there has been a tremendous rise in voice calls. We have gone from 90 minutes in 2016 to more than 3 hours in this 2017. This represents 100% more than the previous year, thus breaking the trend of slight increase compared to previous years.
Internet data consumption is also increasing: we went from 882 MB on average during the first half of 2016 to 1,198 MB in the same period of the year. This translates into an increase of more than 35%. And the traditional SMS? They continue their inevitable plummet, due to messaging platforms such as WhatsApp or Telegram. Right now, each user sends only 5 messages a month.
Now we go with the use according to Autonomous Communities. Melilla leads the way in terms of voice calls with an average of 264 minutes per month. It is followed by the Community of Madrid with 229 minutes. Andalusia is also above the average: 199 minutes of calls. The autonomous communities that speak the least on the phone are Galicia, with 149 minutes, the Canary Islands, with 147 minutes and Ceuta with 144.
And the consumption of data by Communities? The Balearic Islands lead the top, with an average consumption of 1.8 GB per month. Among the Communities that spend the least data are Aragón, Murcia and the Basque Country, in which the GB of data spent is barely exceeded. All Communities this year have exceeded the amount of 1 GB used, due to the general increase in mobile use.
Men surf more than women
By sex, we see how men navigate more, but speak less than women. Men speak an average of 177 minutes compared to 199 for women. In terms of data use, women spend an average of 1,176 MB compared to 1,211 for women.
Young people between 15 and 20 years old are the ones who call the most and consume the most data. In total, an average of 1,750 MB and 238 minutes on average.
