Huawei is one of the few companies that has decided not to follow (at least for now) the trend of square-shaped cameras. Its latest flagship, the Huawei Mate 30 Pro, has a quadruple lens with a rounded shape. This camera is surrounded by a ring that only adds an aesthetic touch. However, in the next generation this could change. The circle around the lens could become a touch screen. This is Huawei's latest idea.
Huawei has patented a smartphone design with a screen on the camera ring. This screen would be the same size as the circle that surrounds the lens of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro. Although, in the event that this technology reaches future devices, the design could change and adapt to the appearance of the next mobile. The interesting thing about the touch panel is that it would allow us to perform different quick actions. Among them, zooming in on photos, controlling volume, swiping between pages, or even answering calls.
Color screen to display notifications and other visual alerts
The screen would have AMOLED technology and would be in color, since it would show icons or even light when activating some alerts, such as the alarm . It could also be used to display notifications. Even to act as a watch when the device is placed face down on a flat surface. Pictures published at the patent office show how this ring-shaped display would work.
It is a very interesting concept, although it remains to be seen how it would work in practice . Having a screen so close to the camera has a main drawback: it is very likely that we will touch the lens with our fingerprint and leave a mark on the sensor.
Also, do not forget that it is a patent. That is, a simple idea and concept registered by Huawei. Maybe we will see it in the matte 40 series, or it just stays as a simple sketch that could evolve in the somewhat more distant future. Currently, Huawei is one of the companies that apply for the most patents. Last year, according to Bloomerg, they managed to register more than 50,000.
