The Samsung Galaxy S10, which would be presented in early 2019, may not have speakers. Yes, we have not gone crazy: a phone without a speaker. In fact, it would not be the first. The Xiaomi Mi Mix, presented in 2016, did not incorporate speakers either, and used a technology similar to that of the future Samsung Galaxy S10.How will it play music and how can we talk on the phone without speakers?
The advantage of not incorporating speakers is clear: we gain space on the screen. And, as you will see in any phone, the speaker occupies a part (small, but occupies it) of the front of your phone. It is neither behind nor to one side, but on the front, the most valuable part of the phone, which could be used to have a larger screen in less space. And, a larger screen also means smaller edges, so we also win in aesthetics.
The technology that would make this possible has been called by Samsung as "Sound On Display" (SoD), which comes to be in Spanish "Sound on screen". Indeed, and speaking in silver, the sounds of the phone would come out of the screen.
"Sound on screen", Samsung's new technology
Samsung has not given details about how this technology works, but it has announced it at the SID Display Week conference that is being held in Los Angeles (United States), in which a curved (and flexible) screen of 14 inches. To get an idea, what Samsung wants to achieve can be achieved by vibrating the entire phone. After all, sound is waves produced by vibrations.
In the case of the Xiaomi Mi Mix, the technology is called Cantilever piezoelectric ceramic acoustic technology ; specifically, it is possible to generate sounds through vibrations in the telephone by means of a piezoelectric, an electronic component formed by a certain crystal that, when electricity is applied to it, deforms. This deformation is what causes such vibration. In the case of the Mi Mix, the sound is transmitted through the metal frame, which is what vibrates.
And how do we know that this type of speaker will be included in the Samsung Galaxy S10? It is not completely safe, but Samsung has assured that this technology is ready to be commercialized and that it will be included in the near future in smartphones.
Including it in the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 would be very hasty, since the presentation is in a few months, in addition to the fact that the front of the phone has already been filtered and, indeed, it has a speaker; therefore, they would wait until the Galaxy S10, which has not yet entered manufacturing, to incorporate this novel technology. In addition, the "Galaxy S" range is usually the one that presents the big news and big changes of the year.
