EA Sports surprised everyone by announcing a month ago that the traditional version of the World Cup for national teams of its soccer game, FIFA, would arrive for free -in the form of an update- for both the video game, PC and mobile versions. Although, obviously, the contents are different from those of its older brothers, the Android and iOS version of this game reserves some surprises as well as interesting game modes. We take a look at the new proposals of the World Cup Russia 2018 Mode and we tell you if this update of the best-selling soccer video game in the world has been worth it.
The first thing to clarify is that this update adds modes, teams, World Cup uniforms and even updates the rating of some players, but it is not a new game. We will not see a new gameplay, but we will continue with the normal FIFA 18 and which we will continue to have. It should also be remembered that, as in the full game released in October, the squad system in this Russia 2018 version is based on FIFA Ultimate Team.
To access the World mode before we will have to unlock training to get 64 credits. One got time to see going into different categories, which are My Selection National, Contra, Level World, World Stage, FIFA World Cup, Meetings and Shop. We will also visualize in the upper right part a classification with the best classified of the online games.
In the My National Team section we will be offered eleven players of the nationality we have chosen. They will not be the summoned, at least not all, but in the Ultimate Team style, they will provide us with players of all ratings and we must make them fit as well as possible.
The Contra mode may be one of the most playable, and it is about playing the World Cup online in the style of the tournaments that are played in FIFA or PES in the console versions. To access we must have the amateur level and once we are assigned an opponent and an hour, participate and advance based on our results. Every 8 hours new championships are played, so we must register before to be able to participate and be assigned a match.
In World Level we are shown a screen in which to acquire different prizes with the tokens that we win playing in the World Cup or Contra mode. There we can exchange those chips for advantages such as acquiring new players from the national team that we have chosen or for points for when we play a phase of the World Cup. The section is divided by levels and the higher ours is, the better cards we can acquire.
The World Cup Mode is, as it seems evident, to play the World Cup with the team we want. Of course, we must do it with the team that is given to us in the first Ultimate Team envelope which, as we have already said, although all from that country, not all at the level of the national team. To do this we must have enough chips to spend in the World Level section and acquire the players we want. Of course, to give it more realism, our rivals will have the normal squads that we will see in the World Cup, something that will also make it more difficult to win our games. The progression is saved automatically, in case we don't want to play it all at once.
Already of another nature are the World Phase modes, which will remain blocked until the tournament starts and has a purely informative mood about the results and scorers of the matches. And the Encounters section, which is simply about what we have always known as a baton, or trying to predict the outcome of matches. A few hours before each confrontation, the possibility of being able to guess the result will open and there will be rewards, surely in the mode of cards from new players or tokens, for those who guess the result.
In the Store we will find the classic FIFA Ultimate Team products that we can buy from our wallet if we do not have enough expertise in the game to win many chips and exchange them.
The update with the World Cup in Russia for FIFA 18 on mobile phones, appealing to football fans due to the arrival of the World Cup, is far from that of consoles and PC, which adds the stadiums that we will see in the World Cup and some more modes. It seems almost like a patch only with new kits and templates, more focused on publicizing the World Cup and new FUT cards - with the consequent collection that this entails for EASports - than a new section that will give us many more hours of play.
