It is probably one of the most anticipated launches of 2017. As every year, the Korean company Samsung will present us with the launch of a new flagship. But the device will not arrive alone. It will do so alongside the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus. Both will share part of their characteristics.
For example, the original Samsung Galaxy S8 will be presented for the first time with a curved screen, so that the version that until now we knew as "edge" will no longer make sense. Both teams will have it. But of course, this will not be the only thing that we can highlight about this device.
Next, we tell you everything we know so far about the Samsung Galaxy S8 to come.
Design and display
We have already said that the screen will be one of the strengths of this smartphone. In principle, it seems that the device will be renewed with a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED panel. According to all rumors, it will enjoy a resolution of 1,440 x 2,960 pixels and will have a resulting density of 568 dots per inch, which will allow us to enjoy excellent quality when playing multimedia content.
It is expected, on the other hand, that this screen arrives protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 glass, against accidental bumps and scratches. The equipment will come covered with a glass and metal housing, with a rounded design and edges, which will fit very well in the hand.
According to the leaks, the equipment will have dimensions of 140.1 x 72.2 x 7.3 millimeters. But there will be major changes in the location of some key elements. The physical home button that until now has characterized both teams Samsung disappear to make way for a wider screen.
Thus, the fingerprint sensor will have to be located at the rear of the terminal, just below the camera. On the front, near the secondary camera, there would be the iris sensor, a tool that we already saw in the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 and that now reaches the S8.
Processor, memory and operating system
But let's continue now with the ins and outs of this team, because this will be one of the most important points: performance. It seems that the device will be presented with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 (MSM8998) processor with eight cores, with an architecture of 4 cores at 2.45 GHz Kryo and 4 more at 4 × 1.9 GHz.
However, everything indicates that following Samsung's own tradition, the equipment that will arrive in Europe will have an Exynos chip, developed by signature. We will see what model it finally brings, but it is expected to be the most recent version.
This chip will combine its operation with an Adreno 540 graphics card (GPU) and with a 4 GB RAM memory. In some chapters of rumors we have seen that this capacity could amount to 6 GB, so it is advisable not to venture into premature statements. Either way, the two possibilities are.
What does seem more certain is that there will be two different versions. On the one hand we would have the Samsung Galaxy S8 of 64 GB and on the other, the model with 128 GB. In any case, the two would support expansion via microSD cards of 256GB, at most.
The operating system chosen for the occasion would be Android 7.0 Nougat, the most recent that exists for now from the Google icon platform. This means that the device will bring all the newest functions. It is expected, yes, that Samsung equips this smartphone with many other special software tools.
One of the most anticipated is the Secure Folder function, which allows us to store files in a subfolder within the phone. This can only be unlocked through the fingerprint or, if you have the reader, through the iris. If you want to try it, it will come very soon to the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, but it is already in the Samsung Galaxy A5 2017.
Photographic camera
Another very important section: the camera. The Samsung Galaxy S8 that could come from the double parking systems, to make way for a single 12 - megapixel sensor. It will have an f / 1.7 aperture, phase detection autofocus, image stabilizer (OIS), and LED flash. In addition, it is expected that this same camera will allow us to make 4K video and work with different modes, such as the now classic HDR and Panorama.
The secondary camera, located on the front with the rest of the sensors, would be 8 megapixels. It would have an aperture f / 1.7. In principle, it is a more than acceptable quality for taking selfies and video calls.
It should be noted, on the other hand, that some rumors bet on the possibility that this same camera works through a special technology, capable of detecting objects. We will see how these little clues materialize.
Drums
The battery is the Achilles heel of all manufacturers. To all the innovations that are given generation after generation, we must add their continuous struggle to find the formula that allows to extend the autonomy of the devices to the maximum. In this case, the Samsung Galaxy S8 will be reinforced by a 3,000 milliamp battery.
While it is true that there are other mobiles with more powerful batteries, it is expected that Samsung technologies and improvements in the processor can compensate. The desirable thing would be that the battery of this team could be extended for a couple of days, but we will inevitably have to see it on the test table.
It should be noted, however, that the device could have a wireless charging system: which will undoubtedly make the recharging process much more comfortable.
Price and availability
The price and availability of the Samsung Galaxy S8 is one of its best kept secrets. The device could be presented in society on March 29, so that it would reach the main markets - Spanish included - in mid-April.
He would, logically, along with his partner, the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus and for prices that would be around 850 euros for the Samsung Galaxy S8 and 950 euros, in the case of the Plus version. The prices, logically, would be for the more "basic" version, 64 GB, which is, in fact, the one with the most numbers to reach more markets internationally.
