Xiaomi is ahead of Android 11. The Chinese company has revealed all the news of MIUI 12, the new version of the interface available on all their mobiles. This update, which will soon come to a large list of compatible models, includes new features in terms of design and interface, animations and productivity options. We review all the news that will reach your Xiaomi mobile with MIUI 12, as well as the list of possible models that will update to this version.
MIUI 12 includes improvements and new features in the interface. Now the settings have a much more minimalist design, where large rounded icons and simple options reign. Settings with important information are simplified. To this new design of settings is also added an improvement in the animations. Not only are they more fluid, they are fully adaptable to actions. For example, now we find animations in the rotation of the screen, when activating a setting, entering an app etc. Another novelty in the design is found in the wallpapers. We can choose dynamic backgrounds that adapt to our movements and phone options. Finally, the weather application is renewed with a much more intuitive and minimalist interface.
Xiaomi also adds new settings for productivity and ease of use . When a notification appears at the top of the screen, we can drag it down to open the app in a floating window. Thus, for example, we can see the message and respond, without having to enter the application. When we are done we slide up and it will close. This floating window can be moved to different areas of the screen or even fully expanded if we need it.
Privacy and security improvements
New icons to know if an app is using the microphone, location or camera.
How could it be otherwise, we also see news in terms of security and privacy. To begin with, the interface will notify us if an application is using the microphone or the location. An icon will appear in the upper area when any item is activated. Therefore, if we are recording a video on Instagram, the camera and microphone icon will be activated, something normal in this application. However, it shouldn't be activated in a notes app, for example.
Xiaomi adds a new registration mode to prevent the app from collecting personal data. We can log into an app or service with an 'anonymous' or personal account, but with the possibility of changing it from time to time and thus avoid a collection of our data. At the moment it is unknown if this option has to be implemented by developers in their applications. Or else, it is Xiaomi who will include it in the system. Finally, Xiaomi gives us the possibility to hide personal data from the photographs. For example, the location where the image was taken. Something that the system always collects.
What more features are coming with MIUI 12?
- Dark Mode 2.0: The shades of the dark mode are automatically adapted to prevent eye strain when switching between light tones and dark tones.
- Smart calls: we can add automatic responses to calls through AI. Call accessibility options are also added, such as the ability to convert calls into text using artificial intelligence.
- Privacy Certification: MIUI 12 is certified by TÜV Rheinland for “Android System Enhanced Privacy Protection Test”.
- Step counter: MIUI 12 adds a step counter with a technology similar to that used in the Mi Band.
- Sleep report: sleep monitoring is also added.
