Last Thursday Xiaomi presented to the public the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 and Redmi Note 9 Pro. These two terminals are added to the Redmi Note 9S presented by the same company just a few weeks ago. The latter has just been launched by the Chinese firm in Spain. The two remaining phones are supposed to arrive from the second half of May. But what differences are there really between the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 vs Redmi Note 9S vs Redmi Note 9 Pro? We see it below.

Design: all the same except for a single detail
The aesthetic differences between the three models are practically negligible. The three devices have a practically traced, or almost traced design. Back and chassis made of glass and metal and a front part that stands out for having a centered hole except for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9, which opts for a lateral arrangement.
Another difference that the cheapest model keeps with respect to its counterparts is part of the screen size: 6.53 inches compared to 6.67 of the Redmi Note 9S and Note 9 Pro. This is due, in part, to the ratio of the phone: 19.5: 9 compared to 20: 9 of the higher models. Of course, this difference in proportion influences the final size of the phones.
The Redmi Note 9 is 4 millimeters lower and 1 millimeter wider. It is also less heavy, with about 10 grams of difference (199 grams in total) compared to the two remaining models. The rest of the differences are purely visual. For example, the camera module of the Note 9 is smaller than that of the Note 9S and 9 Pro. Interestingly, the bottom frame of the latter is smaller, which allows you to take much better advantage of the total size of the device compared to size from the screen. It should be added that all models have a fingerprint sensor, although in this case it is located on the right side.
Same screen for all models
Except for the size and ratio of the screen, an aspect that we have already talked about previously, technical differences are practically non-existent. All three phones have an IPS panel with Full HD + resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. They all have a 60 Hz refresh rate, although, unfortunately, the company has not provided the brightness data.
Mediatek on the one hand, Qualcomm on the other and the unknown of the NFC
The biggest difference between the three models is the hardware. While the Redmi Note 9S and Redmi Note Pro opt for the same hardware, the Redmi Note 9 has a very different configuration.
In summary, the phone has a Mediatek Helio G85 processor along with 3 and 4 GB of RAM. The larger-inch models feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor along with a single configuration of 6GB of RAM on the Redmi Note 9 Pro and 4 and 6GB on the Redmi Note 9S.
The difference between models goes beyond the processors; Flash memory technology is more advanced in Qualcomm's processor, which opts for the UFS standard over the Redmi Note 9's eMMC standard, a much more outdated and slower option than Qualcomm's.
This influences system response times and browsing speed when loading applications. Also in gaming performance. Despite the differences between memories, the capacity in all models is 64 and 128 GB. All are expandable through microSD cards up to 512 GB.
And what about the presence of NFC connectivity to make mobile payments? The only model that integrates this connectivity is the Redmi Note 9 Pro. The rest of the technical aspects are practically traced to those of the rest of smartphones: Bluetooth 5.0, dual band WiFi, infrared sensor…
Four cameras and only one difference
The photographic section of each of the models forms a very similar configuration. Let's go by parts.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 has four cameras of 48, 8, 2 and 2 megapixels. The 48 megapixel sensor acts as the main sensor, while the rest of the sensors are accompanied by wide-angle and macro lenses to give the device greater versatility. The last sensor, by the way, is meant to improve the bokeh in Portrait mode photos.
As for the Redmi Note 9S, the phone uses a practically identical lens configuration. The difference is found in the resolution of the sensor with a macro lens, which goes from 2 to 5 megapixels. Xiaomi has not confirmed it, but everything indicates that the main sensor also has some technical differences. It is very likely that we are facing a different sensor, brighter and with a greater dynamic range.
The same confirmation of cameras we find in the Redmi Note 9 Pro, except for a single detail. Exactly, the main camera. The phone uses a 64-megapixel sensor, a sensor very similar to that of the Redmi Note 8 Pro. In fact, it is very likely that it is the same sensor, although again there is no official confirmation from Xiaomi. The results, therefore, should not differ much from the mentioned model.
It is time to talk about the front camera. Here the differences focus solely on resolution: 13 megapixels for the Redmi Note 9 and 16 for the Redmi Note 9S and Note 9 Pro. All three have facial recognition functions through software.
Same battery and fast charging for the most expensive model
Even though the Redmi Note 9 is smaller than the Note 9 Pro and 9S, the battery size is exactly the same: 5,020 mAh. For this reason, the autonomy should be somewhat greater in the cheaper model, although it should not differ excessively due to having a less optimized processor.
Where we do find tangible differences is in fast charging technology. While redmi Note 9 and Note 9S have 18 W load, the Note Pro features no less than 33 W. The loading speed could therefore be halved.
Price and availability, the big difference
Beyond the technical differences between the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 vs Note 9 Pro vs Note 9S, the biggest difference between the three models lies in price and availability. To date, the only model for sale in Spain is the Redmi Note 9. The prices announced by Xiaomi are as follows:
- Redmi Note 9S with 4 and 64 GB: 230 euros (200 euros in promotion).
- Redmi Note 9S with 6 and 128 GB: 270 euros (250 euros in promotion).
As for the two remaining models, Xiaomi has announced that they will begin to arrive from the second half of May. The global price of the two devices is as follows:
- Redmi Note 9 with 3 and 64 GB: 200 dollars.
- Redmi Note 9 with 4 and 128 GB: $ 250.
- Redmi Note 9 Pro with 6 and 64 GB: 270 dollars.
- Redmi Note 9 Pro with 6 and 128 GB: $ 300.
It is not ruled out that the company launches the terminals with a promotional discount. This discount could reduce the price of the devices by an average of 30 euros over the final sale price. Nowadays, they can only be bought on Chinese pages through exporters.
