Same screen, different sizes
So is. The specifications of the two terminals are practically identical if we talk about the screen: LCD panel, 19.5: 9 format and Full HD + resolution. The only difference is found precisely in size: 6.53 inches compared to 6.3 inches on the Redmi Note 8T.
This also affects the overall dimensions of the device. In other words, the Redmi 9 is taller and wider than the Redmi Note 8T. Ironically, the weight is similar in both cases, with a figure very close to 200 grams.
Qualcomm vs Mediatek, with all that this entails
Where we do find a more tangible difference is in the technical section. And is that while the Redmi 9 has a Mediatek G80 processor, the Redmi Note 8T has the well-known Qualcomm Snapdragon 665.
In numbers, the two terminals offer a similar experience. The difference is that the Redmi 8T has support from the programming community, with the occasional custom ROM, not to mention the compatibility with Google Camera and other applications initially developed for other smartphones.
For the rest, the two terminals have a similar configuration of similar memory: 3 and 4 GB of RAM and 32 and 64 GB of internal storage. Additionally, the Redmi Note 8T has a version with 128 GB of storage. Also, both have NFC for mobile payments, FM radio, dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth 5.0.
Photographic section: the main sensor as the only difference
The configuration chosen by Xiaomi in the Redmi 9 traces the roadmap of the Redmi Note 8T to the bottom. The only substantial difference is found in the main sensor, which not only has a lower resolution (48 megapixels compared to 13 on the Redmi 9), but also with a narrower focal aperture (f / 2.2). This affects the final quality of the photos and the brightness in low light conditions. In short, the Redmi Note 8T has a more capable camera.
The other big difference between the Redmi 9 with respect to the Redmi Note 8T is found in the front sensor. Specifically, the selfie camera of the Redmi 9 has 8 megapixels, while the Redmi Note 8T has 13 megapixels. The definition of the images should be somewhat higher on the Note 8T, at least by theory.
As for the rest of the cameras, the lens configuration and the characteristics of the sensors are identical in both cases: three 8, 5 and 2 megapixel cameras with wide-angle and macro lenses and a last sensor designed to improve the bokeh of the photos in Portrait mode.
Autonomy is the main differential point
Xiaomi has opted for batteries that exceed 5,000 mAh in its latest generation of smartphones. The Redmi 9 has a module of no less than 5,020 mAh, which represents an increase of 25% compared to the battery of the Redmi Note 8T.
The difference between autonomies should not be directly promotional to this 25%. After all, the Redmi 9 has a somewhat less optimized processor and a larger screen. Still, the difference between one and the other should be substantial. The same is true of cargo. Despite the fact that they both have an 18 W charging system, the greater capacity of the Redmi 9 will make charging times longer.
So which mobile is worth the most?
To determine which mobile is worth talking about the price beforehand. The Redmi 9 starts from a price in the official Xiaomi store of 140 euros, while the Redmi Note 8T starts from 130 in its cheapest version with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. Is it worth spending 10 euros more for the latest version?
The truth is that yes, unless we prioritize photographic quality. The Redmi 9 does not usually offer a superior autonomy, also a wider screen. On the contrary, it is more bulky than the Redmi Note 8T, although the two have an almost identical weight. To this must be added that it does not have community support. Therefore, it is likely that we will not find support from the Google Camera application.
