Xiaomi already has the full range of entry catalog for this 2020 in the Spanish market. The Chinese company announced a few months ago the Redmi 9, and recently they have also launched the Redmi 9C and Redmi 9A for sale. These three devices are the cheapest of the firm, but how are they different? We review all the features and differences of these three new models.
Design: big differences
Redmi 9 design
In the design section is where we see more differences. The Xiaomi Redmi 9 has a much more 'modern' design than the Redmi 9C and 9A, since these last two terminals are focused on the entry range, and the Redmi 9 is located more in the mid-range.
The back of the Redmi 9 is made of polycarbonate, like that of the Redmi 9C and Redmi 9A. The difference is that the Redmi 9's camera module is located in the center, in a vertical position and with a circular design on the back. In the case of the Redmi 9C, the camera is in the upper left area and the module has a square shape. The Redmi 9A also has a camera in the left area, but with a single lens and with a vertical module.
As for the front, a priori it seems that there are no major differences. All three models have a drop-type notch in the upper area and a minimal frame in the lower part, but that of the Redmi 9 seems to be much thinner than the frames of the Redmi 9C and Redmi 9A, which are the same.
There are also differences in the cameras
The camera configuration varies depending on the model, with the Redmi 9A being the one with the worst configuration, since it only has a main camera with 13 megapixels of resolution. The Redmi 9C also has that 13-megapixel camera, but two more sensors are added: a 5-megapixel wide-angle lens and a depth-of-field lens with 2-megapixel resolution. The latter camera is used for portrait mode.
On the other hand, the Redmi 9 has a quad camera. Again, we see that 13 megapixel main lens. The slow wide angle goes up to 8 megapixels and in this case a 5 megapixel macro sensor and another macro lens with 2 megapixel resolution are added.
The front camera is the same on the Redmi 9A and Redmi 9C, with a resolution of 5 megapixels. The front camera of the Redmi 9 amounts to 8 megapixels.
Same screen size, but different resolution
An interesting detail: the three terminals have the same screen size. Also the same technology. They are 6.53-inch LCD panels. We see the differences in the resolution. The highest is on the Redmi 9, with Full HD + on that panoramic panel. The Redmi 9C and Redmi 9A, which are also 6.53 inches, drop down to HD + resolution. This also makes the pixel density per inch lower on these models, so there is a difference in sharpness.
And in the battery, very few differences
All three mobiles have a great battery. Both the Redmi 9A and the Redmi 9C have 5,000 mAh, something else has the Redmi 9, 5020 mAh. This difference of 20 mAh can be key for the most powerful terminal in the Redmi 9 range to have the same battery life as the other models, since it must be taken into account that the Redmi 9 has a higher resolution.
There is also difference in charge. The Redmi 9 has a load of 18W. The Redmi 9C and Redmi 9A have 15w.
MediaTek for all three models
Xiaomi has decided to choose MediaTek for the entry-level models. However, the processor model changes depending on the device. The Redmi 9 has a MediaTek Helio G80 processor, it is the same processor that the Realme 6i has. The Redmi 9C and Redmi 9A have practically the same processor, although the version of the C model is slightly higher: G35 vs G25 respectively.
Regarding the RAM and storage configuration, the Redmi 9C and Redmi 9A share specifications: 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. The Redmi 9 has up to two variants . On the one hand, a version of 3 GB of RAM with 32 GB of internal storage. On the other, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory. In all three cases expandable by micro SD.
Prices: from 100 euros to almost 150 euros
Finally, let's see what differences are between the prices. We have been able to verify that the Redmi 9A is the most basic terminal, the one with the lowest specifications: it only has one camera, the processor is the least powerful and its design is more basic. It is followed very closely by the Redmi 9C, with hardly any differences in the photographic section and the processor. As well as in the design, which although it is somewhat more current, it is also quite basic.
The Redmi 9 is the most powerful. Also the one with a better design, more battery and a larger photographic section. Of course, it is also the most expensive.
The Xiaomi Redmi 9A costs 100 euros in its version with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory. The Redmi 9C is priced at 120 euros. That is, there is only 20 euros of difference. The Redmi 9 costs 125 euros for the version with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory: only 5 euros of difference compared to the 9C. The version with 4 GB of RAM is more expensive: 140 euros.
