Similar design but different display
One of the differences between the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is already visible on the back cover of these phones. Although it is quite subtle. And it is that, by not having the same cameras (something we will talk about later), they do not have the same lens module in the back. In both, the format of choosing the same housing color but a few shades darker for this module is repeated. However, you will see that the Note 20 Ultra is much more populated. It has a laser sensor to quickly measure focus, and this puts more elements in the module. In addition, the periscope camera of the Ultra model has a square aperture, while in the normal Note 20 all the lenses are perfectly round. Subtle, but remarkable.
The colors available for both models also change. While in the Note 20 you can choose between a dark gray tone, a green and the characteristic bronze, in the Note 20 Ultra version you can choose a white, black or, also, bronze tone. And a difference that is not seen but is noticeable: only the ultra version has the Corning Gorilla Glass 7 glass. Its most updated version and, therefore, more resistant to bumps and scratches. Therefore, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is the best option if you are a bit clumsy or clumsy. Of course, both the Note 20 and the Note 20 Ultra have IP68 certification that ensures that they resist contact with dust and water.
But it is on the screens where we see the biggest differences between the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 to dry. A decision by Samsung that makes the Note 20 lose a certain qualitative value compared to its older brother. And not only that, but it is also behind the Samsung Galaxy S20 in some aspects, despite having the same price. A point to take into account when it comes to disbursing the nearly 1,000 euros that this mobile costs. See how they differ:
On the one hand, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is shown with a brand new 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED panel that is not only large, attractive and colorful, but also has curved finishes on the sides. Or as Samsung calls them: edges. In addition, the resolution that this panel reaches is 2K or WQHD + or 3200 x 1440 pixels, and it is capable of displaying images at a speed of up to 120 frames per second. Wow, everything you can ask for from the most advanced Samsung mobile.
However, on the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 already lets you notice that it is a lower step in terms of screen just by glimpsing the lack of curves in its design. Its panel is completely flat. But, in addition, it is a panel with Super AMOLED technology, which also offers brightness and color saturation to enjoy quality images, but one step behind Dynamic AMOLED. Nor does it match its big brother in size, resolution, or refresh rate. It stays at 6.7 inches and at FullHD + (2400 x 1080 pixels). In addition, the refresh rate does not exceed 60Hz, so, even seeing a fluid and detailed image, it will not be as much as in the Note 20 Ultra, but not as in the Samsung Galaxy S20 to dry, which already reached 120Hz. Something that leaves this model decaffeinated face to face. Of course, it keeps the S Pen and the news that they have included this year, and that we explain in our video next to this article.
Cameras: near and far differences
The cameras section is also plagued with differences between the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and the Note 20 Ultra. Although they maintain the same scheme of wide angle + ultra wide angle + telephoto, again the older brother beats the Note 20. At least on the technical sheet. And we have not yet tested these cameras in detail.
But we can talk about differences in detail and resolution if we compare the main sensors since, in the Note 20, it stays at 12 megapixels. Meanwhile, in the Note 20 Ultra we see the 108-megapixel camera that had been so much rumored. We already know that more doesn't always mean better, but we bet that the resolution and sharpness of the photos vary between these two models due to this main camera. So if photography is your thing, you should bet on the Note 20 Ultra. But, if in addition to photography, your thing is espionage, you should also bet on this model. The telephoto or telephoto camera in this mobile has a periscope system that allows it to apply up to 5 increases optically, without losing quality. And thanks to the software it is capable of increasing the photo up to 50x. From what you will see from quite a distance, although with the increases comes the blur. For its part, the Note 20 has a classic telephoto lens. This means staying at 3x optical. Enough to capture distant scenes in good detail, but not to get that flashy 50x zoom.
By the way, as we were talking about the design, there is another difference in the Note 20 Ultra and the normal Note 20, and it is the presence of a laser for focus. Something that makes the focus faster and more precise on the Note 20 Ultra, and that is not present on the Note 20.
Differences between Note 20 Ultra and Note 20 with the S Pen
The stylus that accompanies Samsung's Note mobiles has also been affected in this model division. Well, technically it is the mobile that makes the difference, since the S Pen is the same for both models. It has its button, its retractable system to insert it and disengage it, and its rechargeable battery wirelessly. However, it acts differently in the Note 20 than in the Note 20 Ultra due, precisely, to the different screens that both models carry.
Thus, Samsung has managed to reduce the latency of the S Pen on the screen of its Note 20 compared to the Note 10. By 40% in the case of the Note 20, and up to 80% in the case of the Note 20 Ultra. This is to lower the latency from 42ms of the Note 10 to 9ms of the Note 20 Ultra. A time reduction that makes the experience in writing and drawing more natural. Practically instantaneous. However, there is some difference between the Note 20 and the Note 20 Ultra, a few milliseconds apart. Perceptible? Probably not. But it is a fact that you should know to choose the model that suits you best.
Luckily, the rest of the S Pen-related features in this edition remain unchanged. That is, there are also the same elements and a similar experience in their use. New gestures and useful new features in the notes app are unchanged. The only thing is that the Note 20 has a few thousandths of a second more delay when it comes to displaying the trace on the screen.
And what about power and performance?
Luckily Samsung has not made a dent in differentiating the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and the Note 20 in this regard. Of course, there are different models depending on storage capacity and RAM. But at least the brain of these machines is the same for both phones: the Exynos 990 processor. A chip that comes with the connectivity module to be able to use the 5G connections both in one and the other model. So far so good.

As for RAM, the Note 20 stays at 8GB. Being the most advanced Samsung mobile is a good piece of information but not the best. Something that makes it even more valuable that the Note 20 Ultra does go up to 12GB of RAM, at least in the model that will be sold in Spain. Figures that are used relatively with the usual use of the mobile, being 8GB more than enough. But if we look at the prices of these phones or take a look at the fact that the Samsung Galaxy S20 do have 12GB for less, things change.
In storage there is a somewhat harder blow to the Note 20 by limiting the expandability. Its memory remains at 256GB, which is not little. But it is not the 256 or 512GB of the Note 20 Ultra models. Mobile that also supports microSD cards to expand this space by up to 1TB.
Differences between size and battery of the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra
By having different screens and different components, it is normal that there is a difference in size and weight between the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and Galaxy Note 20 in use. Something that is also noticeable in the weight.
While the Note 20 is somewhat more compact, with measures of 75.2 x 161.6 x 8.3 millimeters and a weight of 192 grams, the Note 20 Ultra increases to 77.2 x 164.8 x 8.1 millimeters with 208 grams of weight. It is taller and wider, but it is somewhat narrower. Something that, in addition, is noticeable in the hand due to the rounded edges and the curved screen. However, it is striking that despite having a narrower body it has capacity for a MicroSD card slot and also for more battery.
And, although the difference is little, the Galaxy Note 20 incorporates a 4,300 mAh battery. A data that exceeds the Note 20 Ultra with 4,500 mAh. Of course, with screens of different technologies and refresh rates, it will be necessary to measure in a detailed review to see how long this data is derived from. The good thing is that, in both terminals, there is fast charging of up to 25W, and also 15W wireless charging and reversible charging of up to 4.5W. So the possibilities are the same although the experience may vary slightly when it comes to enjoying autonomy.
The biggest difference: the price
Of course the price has a lot to do with these two models. The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 hits the market for a base price of 950 euro. If we want all the benefits of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra we will have to overcome the barrier of 1,000 euros in length. And it is that the most affordable model has a price of 1,300 euros. Of course, as we have seen in this comparison, it is qualitatively better. With all the technological advances of the company. What makes a notable difference with his younger brother. And you, which one would you choose?
