- Will you update my Huawei mobile to the next versions of Android?
- Will Google applications still be compatible with my Huawei mobile?
- Will Huawei launch its own operating system?
The news jumped during the night of yesterday. Google has officially vetoed Huawei in everything related to the North American company. The reason for this is due to the restrictive policies of the Donald Trump government with companies of Chinese origin. The question now falls on what will happen to the Huawei phones that are currently on the market. Will they stop updating to new versions of Android? Will Google apps still be supported? Will Huawei launch a new operating system of its own? We see it below.
Will you update my Huawei mobile to the next versions of Android?
The truth is that there has still been no official confirmation from Google. Logic tells us that the company that owns part of the Android operating system could largely veto updates to all those Huawei phones that have this system. Will they stop receiving updates for it? The answer is no.
As an open source operating system, Android, or rather, AOSP (Android Open Source Project) publishes with each new revision of the system all the improvements at the software level and the corrections in terms of security measures of the corresponding Android version. The problem is that being a company owned by Google, these reviews are reported to it in advance, so that all companies that collaborate with Google receive their share of the cake several months in advance to update their devices as quickly as possible.
Faced with such a scenario, Huawei will be forced to wait until AOSP publishes the code for the new Android version to begin updating their devices, which for users translates into slower Android updates unless Huawei prepares its own corrections through of the EMUI update, the company's customization layer.
Will Google applications still be compatible with my Huawei mobile?
The second big question has to do with the compatibility of Google applications with Huawei phones. Beyond YouTube or Gmail, Google Apps comprise a list of applications ranging from Google Services to the Play Store, through Google Maps and everything related to Google on Android. Will these continue to be compatible with Huawei phones? According to Android, yes.
As the company itself ensures through its official Twitter account, Google applications will be compatible as long as the conditions of the US government are met. Given the volatility of the Trump administration's policies, it is best to distance yourself from such statements, although for now, everything indicates that Google Apps will remain compatible with all Android phones.
Will Huawei launch its own operating system?
The panorama in terms of Android updates forces the last question to be asked. Will Huawei present its own solution to have full control of its mobile phones? Everything points to yes.
Kirin OS, Huawei's possible operating system.
Last March Richard Yu, Huawei's acting president stated the following:
“We have prepared our own operating system. In case we could no longer use these systems (Google and Microsoft), we would be prepared. That's our plan B, although of course we prefer to work with the Google and Microsoft ecosystems.
This morning another official statement by the Chinese company read the following:
"We will continue to provide security updates and services to all Huawei and Honor smartphones, tablets and devices around the world, both those that have already been sold and those that continue to be for sale"
The possible scenario before these statements may be based either on a proprietary Huawei system called Kirin OS or on the current EMUI layer with periodic updates by the company to support all its devices. Be that as it may, we will have to remain attentive to the response of the Chinese firm to know all its future plans.
