The Camp Nou stadium is the first football stadium with dedicated 5G standard coverage. For this, the commercial band of the Telefónica company and a standard Ericsson 3GPP network have been used. Thanks to 5G technology, in the words of Telefónica de España, the viewer will be allowed to ' explore new, more immersive ways of enjoying sporting events from home as if you were at the stadium '. They have dubbed this project 5G Stadium-Immersive Reality and it wants to make Barcelona the benchmark city for 5G in all of Europe.
Soccer like you've never seen it thanks to 5G technology
During the MWC celebration in Barcelona, Telefónica and FC Barcelona have shown live images from the Camp Nou stadium in addition to other exclusive content such as a training session at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper stadium as well as a Virtual Tour throughout the venue from the stadium.
The Camp Nou stadium is being home to numerous wireless 360º cameras that allow an immersive experience to be broadcast to spectators at home. Thanks to Virtual Reality glasses, the game can be seen from such privileged positions as the benches, next to the goal and in other places that the spectator can choose. To this end, a Virtual Reality application has been created, together with the company VREstudio, to access this experience live during the MWC.
Thanks to 5G technology, the game viewing experience will be amplified and enriched. In recent times, soccer fields have been privileged witnesses of a whole new technology applied to sports such as cablecams, flycams, videodrones, etc. The 5G facilitates the video stream of between 30 MBps and up to 200 MBps for 360º quality in 4K. Thanks to all this and a pair of 360º glasses, the spectator will be able to feel immersed in the sporting event with the sole help of their mobile phone.
What does the future hold for the football viewer thanks to 5G technology? Now, the Camp Nou stadium will be the first to tell us the story, thanks to the eyes of its fans.
