LG has always been very conservative with the design of its mobiles. The high-end inherited the physical appearance of previous generations. The same thing happened with the mid-range and entry: the design was always the same, except for small changes in the camera module, colors or screen format. The company has had no choice but to innovate in order to compete against Xiaomi, Samsung or Huawei. In this case, they are not betting on including the most powerful specifications on the market, but on changing the physical appearance of their mobiles. The first model that arrives to change LG's mobile line is the LG Velvet.
Surely, when you are looking at the images, you will notice that there is nothing interesting about the physical appearance of the LG Velvet. The rear is made of glass, with different color finishes and a triple camera located in the upper area, while on the front we see a panoramic screen with compact frames and a drop-type notch. But the highlight is in the thickness. The terminal is only 7.8mm thick. That is, it is a fairly thin mobile. Even so, the company has been able to include a double curvature in the front area, something that we had never seen in LG. There is also a curvature at the rear. In addition, the aluminum frames have a smooth finish on the top and bottom. The three cameras also do not protrude from the edge, only the front lens does (and in a very shallow way), since it is larger.
If it is 7.8mm thick, how big is the battery? A priori we might think that it has a low capacity because of how thin it is, but the battery is 4,300 mAh. This is more than that of the Huawei P40 Pro, which personally is one of the phones with the best battery on the market. It is what is most surprising about the design: 7.8mm thick and a 4,300 mAh battery capacity. Another interesting detail in the design is that it includes iP68 water and dust resistance.

We leave aside the physical aspect of the LG Velvet to delve into the technical specifications of the terminal. This mobile has a Q ualcomm Snapdragon 765 processor with 5G connectivity, as well as 8 GB of RAM and an internal storage of 128 GB. A fairly complete setup. While it is true that 5G connectivity can drain the battery more quickly, there is a software modification that manages the use of 5G to optimize the autonomy of the terminal. By the way, this mobile has Android 10.
LG Velvet screen and cameras
The LG Veltvet has a slightly curved screen at the edges. It is very reminiscent of the Huawei P30 Pro.
In the multimedia section we find a 6.8-inch screen with Full HD + resolution and a very panoramic format, 20.5: 9. LG has not specified it on its website, but we could be talking about a panel with OLED technology. To maximize the multimedia experience, this LG Velvet is compatible with the company's dual screen. Also, we can make it compatible with the LG Stylus.
As for the photographic section, there are no great news here. It includes a triple main camera. The primary sensor is 48 MP. This high resolution sensor allows us to take photos with greater detail and brightness, but it does not mean that with more quality. In addition, by default the camera shoots at a lower resolution, since a 48 megapixel photograph takes up more storage than one, for example, 13 megapixels.
It is followed by a second 8 MP ultra-wide-angle camera, as well as a third 5-megapixel sensor, which takes care of photographs in portrait mode. The front lens for selfies is 16 megapixels.
Price and availability
The LG Velvet will go on sale in South Korea on May 15. At the moment the price is unknown and if it will be available in Spain. We do know that it will arrive in a single configuration of 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. In addition, it will be available in white, black, green and a pink with a yellow gradient.
