This is not good news for Apple. Steve Jobs has resigned from his position. The founder of the apple firm and, until today, the head of the board of directors, has left his position recommending Tim Cook for the succession.
Mr. Cook has been with the company for thirteen years, and in recent times he has, in fact, been a strong man at Apple. Especially since Jobs has health problems. Let's not forget that he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2004 and, in 2009, he underwent a liver transplant.
Steve Jobs founded the now successful company in 1976 with Steve Wozniak. After losing the war with Microsoft and being fired in 1985, a revitalized Jobs took back the reins of the company just when Apple was at its worst.
The launch of the iPod, iTunes and, above all, the iPhone, marked a before and after both in his company and in the world of technology. In fact, the iPhone has changed the way we all use the mobile phone and has been a definite step towards the ease of use of electronic equipment. In addition, the company Apple of Steve Jobs invented the tablets (iPad) and has shown that the distribution of music, video games and software online is possible as a profitable business and accepted by consumers.
Since January of this year, Steve Jobs barely took care of Apple's most pressing matters. We saw him in public for the last time in June with the presentation of iCloud, the latest strategy of the firm on the Internet.
So far, Apple shares are down 5%.
We reproduce his emotional resignation letter below:
“To the Board of Directors and the Apple Community:
I have always said that if one day I could not meet my obligations and my expectations as CEO of Apple, you would be the first to know. Sadly, that day has come.
Thus, I resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board deems it appropriate, as the Chairman of the Board, a director and an employee of Apple.
As for my successor, I recommend that we continue with the succession plan and appoint Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.
I believe that Apple's brightest and most innovative days are yet to come. And I want to see and contribute to your success in a new role.
I've made some of the best friends in my life at Apple and I thank you for all these years of working with you.
Steve "
