Design and display
Regarding the design of this Sony Xperia Z5 Compact, we must talk about a couple of points to highlight. On the one hand, there is the introduction of a fingerprint reader, useful to lock and unlock the mobile without anyone else having access to it. The funny thing is that Sony has placed it on the right side, next to the volume and camera buttons. In this way it is within reach of the thumb of the right hand, or the index finger of the left hand. All this without carrying out any kind of effort since its size is reduced compared to the average of current mobiles, where the 5-inch screen is used as standard. Enough withplace the registered finger on said sensor for several seconds, which appears as a button highlighted in gray, to unlock or certify that it is the user who is manipulating the mobile.
Another aspect is its small size. And it is that, referring to its surname, Compact (compact), it leaves aside the increasingly exaggerated sizes of the mid and high-end terminals on the market. Thus, its plastic body has measures much smaller than its older brother, the Sony Xperia Z5. All this in a single body that tries to marry all its parts (front, back and side shells) by dyeing everything the same color. Even the buttons follow the tone pattern of the rest of the parts, so the user must choose well which one they want before buying (white, black, lime and coral).
All this enclosing a design of Sony and its Xperia terminals, which is committed to straight lines except for its small rounded corners. An elegant and simple terminal that shows the front screen and two front speakers, integrating the operating system buttons virtually on the screen, and leaving only the volume buttons, camera and fingerprint reader on the side, while that only the camera and the company logo are shown on the back. Of course, it must be said that this terminal comes with IP65 / IP68 certification, so it is resistant to water and dust.
As for its screen, we must talk about a 4.6-inch panel. Something that makes it really comfortable to manage with one hand. It maintains its HD resolution regarding the Xperia Z3 Compact, betting on the 1280 by 720 pixels, with a density of 324 pixels per inch. Something that is far from its older brother, which does have a FullHD panel at 1080 pixels. As positive points we must speak of a brightness of 700 cd / m2, increasing its visibility outdoors compared to the Xperia Z3 Compact version. All this in an IPS panel with TRILUMINOS technology to offer realistic and brilliant colors, and a contrast enhancement. Something that translates into high quality images, even if its resolution is not the highest on the market.
Camera and multimedia
Without a doubt, this Sony Xperia Z5 Compact has opted for the photographic lens. And it is that it has the same 23-inch Exmor RS sensor as the Xperia Z5 to dry, the new flagship of the company. Something that offers very high resolution and quality photographs, as well as 4K quality video recordings, although its screen is not capable of reproducing them in their maximum splendor. This camera comes with an LED flash and has a couple of very interesting extras. On the one hand its autofocusing hybrid capable of capturing an image so sharp in just 0.03 seconds, and secondly the ability to perform5x zoom without distortion. Of course, its total zoom is 16x.
For its part, the front or selfie camera remains at 5 megapixels, offering high-definition photos and videos but without a flash.
As for the multimedia section, the Xperia Z5 Compact comes with a design that integrates two speakers on the front of the terminal, which allows the playback of music and videos with surround quality. All accompanied by FM Radio, as long as headphones are connected. In addition, it has all the technology previously developed by Sony to improve sound quality. Issues such as Clear Audio + to enhance and clarify the sound, or S-Force Front Surround to give more body to the audio, among other possibilities such as noise cancellation or high resolution formats.
Power and memory
The power section is another point to consider in this Sony Xperia Z5 Compact. And it comes to the market with exactly the same processor as the flagship. Thus, the calculation capacity is the same as in the high-end thanks to its Qualcomm Snapdragon 810. An eight-core chip capable of reaching 2 Ghz clock speed. More than enough to move any demanding application or game of the moment. And it is accompanied by an Adreno 420 graphics chip that is responsible for processing all images, textures and video game graphics.
Of course, in terms of memory we must talk about a reduction compared to the flagship. And it is that, compared to the 3 GB of RAM that the Sony Xperia Z5 has, this Z5 Compact version is left with 2 GB. Something that more than meets to offer fluidity in the general operation, allowing a good use of multitasking to jump from one application to another that has been in the background.
Regarding its storage capacity, this mobile comes with 32 GB of space. A storage that is reduced by a few GB by the operating system and applications. Of course, its design has a MicroSD memory card slot with a capacity of up to 200 GB more.
Operating system and applications
At Sony they have not wanted to be late on the issue of updates. That is why its new terminals, including the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact, come with the Android operating system in version 5.1.1 Lollipop, the most current. This means having the features that most already know about personalized notifications and up-to-date security. Mind you, Sony introduces its own customization layer. Something that avoids encountering the pure design and appearance of Android, but also introduces its own gallery applications, photography, videos, music, etc. You can't miss the PlayStation app for the most gamers, with which to be connected to the system to be aware of the news, games, and have direct contact with players.
By bringing the Android operating system with it, a good collection of Google's own applications and tools also come standard. Its YouTube video portal, Google Maps maps, the Hangouts messaging application or its Google Now assistant are present. It also has the Google Play Store application store, where you can find endless tools and more games.
Connectivity and autonomy
This Sony Xperia Z5 Compact also has nothing to envy the rest of the high-end in terms of connectivity. And it comes with all kinds of ports and connectors to use peripherals, smart watches, wireless headphones or even make contactless payments. This is helped by its NFC technology, its Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, its MicroSD card slot, the Nano-SIM card slot, its WiFi antenna, the ability to connect to high-speed 4G or LTE Internet networks or its minijack 3 connector , 5 for headphones.
Nor is it left behind in autonomy. According to Sony, the terminal is capable of holding two whole days without having to plug it into the power. This is possible thanks to a 2,700 mAh battery, but also to its Stamina mode, which is capable of limiting the capabilities of the terminal to extend its charge throughout this time.
Availability, price and opinions
The Sony Xperia Z5 Compact will hit the market in four different colors: white, black, lime and coral. We will know its availability and its price in the coming days.
In short, the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact is a terminal that seeks to fit into the pocket of users who do not want a 5-inch terminal. Thanks to its 4.6-inch screen, it is especially comfortable to use with one hand. All this, yes, without losing potential thanks to the microprocessor Snapdragon 810 and its main camera of 23 megapixels. Components that mimics its older brother, the current Sony flagship. Something that makes it only one notch below. Even so, it is a strong bet on connectivity, being able to enjoy 4G networksand any current peripheral, in addition to a useful life of two days thanks to its 2,700 mAh battery.
