Sony was one of the first brands to drop out of this year's Mobile World Congress. The first launch that comes under the arm of the Japanese firm outside of the technology fair is the Sony Xperia L4, a terminal that comes to renew part of the characteristics that the Xperia L3 presented during last year. Far from being a better update, the phone improves much of the shortcomings that the previous iteration presented. All in all, the phone comes as a bet that seems insufficient if we look at the catalog of brands such as Xiaomi, Realme or even Samsung. We tell you why.

21: 9 screen… with HD resolution
Once again the company has chosen to integrate a 21: 9 panel in its input range. Specifically, the Xperia L4 uses a 6.2-inch panel with IPS technology. The problem with this is that the matrix drinks from a resolution of 720 vertical points, a resolution that greatly limits the visual experience that the 21: 9 format promises.
It is accompanied by a body that, in the absence of official confirmation, is made of polycarbonate. All under a chassis that does not exceed 180 grams and a battery made up of a 3,580 mAh module, an amount that may seem insufficient if we take into account the size and format of the screen. The good news is that we have a fast charging system, although the company has not given many details about it.
Processor dating from 2018 and Android 9 as the base system
So is. The Xperia L4 features a Mediatek processor dating from 2018. Specifically, the Helio P22, a processor that at the time came to rival some mid-range Qualcomm processors and that today remains stagnant in the input range. It is complemented by 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage, expandable through micro SD cards.
As if this were not enough, the phone comes preloaded with Android 9 Pie as the base system, a version that dates back to 2018. Yesterday Google launched the first version of Android 11, and today most manufacturers have already updated at least to Android 10.
The rest of the specifications are made up of a headphone jack input , a USB type C port and NFC connectivity, Bluetooth version 5.0 and WiFi ac.
The camera as Sony's main bet
Where the company has spared no expense is in the photographic section, a section that consists of three 13, 5 and 2 megapixel cameras. The first sensor acts as the main camera, while the second uses a wide angle lens to capture images with a high range of visual field.
The last sensor uses its functions to capture information from the background of images taken through the application's Portrait mode. The front camera, by the way, is made up of an 8 megapixel resolution sensor.
Price and availability in Spain of the Sony Xperia L4
The company has not yet provided data on the availability and price of the phone. Everything indicates that it will arrive from spring for a price that could start from 200 or 250 euros if we take last year's Xperia L3 as a reference, a price that completely distorts Sony's entry range in a market where Xiaomi and Realme go for more capable models and a significantly cheaper price.
