The Japanese company Sony has been waiting to announce its plans for the new update of Android 5.0 Lollipop, the version of the Android operating system that will succeed Android 4.4 KitKat. After Google has officially presented all the news of this update, Sony has officially announced that it will update to Android 5.0 Lollipop all the mobiles belonging to the high-end of the Xperia Z line of phones. This includes everything from mobile as recently as the Sony Xperia Z3 to mobile that came to the market already more than a year, see for example the Sony Xperia Z.
Taking into account this official confirmation from Sony, the list of mobile phones in the Xperia Z range that will receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update would be such that: Sony Xperia Z, Sony Xperia ZL, Sony Xperia ZR, Sony Xperia Z Ultra, Sony Xperia Z1, Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, Sony Xperia Z2, Sony Xperia Z3, Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, also including Sony Xperia Tablet Z, Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet and Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. These terminals will begin to be updated gradually from 2015, and it is expected that the phones with the longest time on the market will be the last to receive their respective operating system updates. The update will be distributed via OTA, which means that it can be downloaded as easily as entering the Settings application, clicking on the " About device " section and selecting the " Software update " option.
At the moment Sony has not announced if in addition to the Android 5.0 Lollipop update it will also incorporate other news related to its own interface layer. For example, in the case of the Sony Xperia Z2, the Android 4.4.4 KitKat update that this smartphone will receive in the coming days will not only bring security improvements, but will also incorporate new features taken from the interface of the new Sony Xperia Z3. We will have to wait some time to discover the news of this new update, since at the moment there is no information that can anticipate the changes that Sony will incorporate into it.
Let's also remember that Android 5.0 Lollipop is the most recent version of Google's Android operating system. Among its main novelties we find a minimalist design, new configuration options, customizable notifications, extreme battery saving (up to 90 minutes of additional autonomy in emergency situations) and estimated report of remaining autonomy time, anti-theft security lock, greater interactivity between devices, etc. The first mobile to bring this update will be the Nexus 6, Google's new smartphone, while competing mobiles will follow the Android 5.0 Lollipop update calendar established by each brand.
