One of the worst things that can happen to us with a mobile is that the screen breaks. Who has this never happened to? Samsung has come up with a solution to fix this problem on future smartphones. The company just announced new flexible OLED panels for mobile devices, which, in turn, are unbreakable. These honeycombs have passed the durability test based on military standards set by the United States Department of Defense.
For the manufacture of this screen, Samsung has used plastic instead of traditional glass. Although it may seem strange, it is not the first time that this material has been used to build a panel. Motorola used multiple layers of polycarbonate for ShatterShield protection on terminals such as the Moto X Force or the Moto Z2 Force. The problem is that these screens were easily scratched, so the criticism was not long in coming. We imagine that Samsung has taken this into account and done a good job.
The novelty is that during the tests to which this new panel was subjected, it was unharmed the 26 times it fell from a height of 1.2 meters. And not only this, it also resisted falls from heights of up to 1.8 meters without suffering any type of damage. In addition, it has been subjected to extreme temperatures, between a maximum of 71ºC and a minimum of -32ºC, without stopping working at any time.
Although it is intended for mobile use, the company also hopes to use this flexible and unbreakable OLED panel in car displays, handheld game consoles and tablets. At the moment, it is unknown when it will begin to be used. We might see it on Samsung's next flagship, the Galaxy S10. The device could see the light next February during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. As far as is known, the company could announce up to three different versions of the device, so this type of panel could be included in one of the higher versions, in all three or none at all. We will inform you.
