"The operator does not allow DUN type APNs to be added", "The operator does not support DUN type APNs when sharing data", "The provider does not allow DUN type APNs to be added"… For some time now, dozens of Users have reported a problem related to SIM configuration when setting the DUN parameter in the APN Type field. This parameter is required to share the Internet on Android through the mobile network provided by the SIM. Apparently, the system is not capable of storing the APN configuration due to an alleged conflict with the telephone operator, as reported by several users. Fortunately, this problem has an easy solution, in fact, we will not have to resort to any third-party application.
How to fix the error Operator does not allow DUN APNs to be added
As we anticipated at the beginning of the article, the DUN parameter is necessary to share the Internet with other devices through the 2G, 3G, HSDPA, HSDPA +, 4G or 4G + network of our mobile. Some virtual operators, also known as OMV, require manual configuration of this parameter to enable this feature. The problem is that Android issues a message that does not allow us to save the APN due to an alleged incompatibility with the parameter in question.
To solve this error, we will have to write the DUN string in uppercase followed by the corresponding parameters with a comma and without spaces. For example, if our operator makes use of the DEFAULT, DUN and SUPL parameters, the string that we will have to enter in the APN Type field will be the following:
- default, DUN, supl
If we want to alter the order of the parameters, we can do it without any problem. The important thing is that the rules mentioned above are respected. For example:
- DUN, default, supl
Once we have configured the APN Type field correctly, Android will allow us to save the APN configuration as long as we have followed the writing rules. If we have followed the steps correctly, the system will allow us to share the Internet with any device through our operator's SIM mobile network.
Internet sharing still doesn't work, what can I do?
If the message continues to appear when saving the APN configuration or the system is unable to share the Internet, the next thing we will have to do is configure the type of MVNO (or type of MVNO, depending on the language of the phone) in the field correspondent.
First, we will have to go to the MVNO Type or MVNO Type field to mark the GID option. Just below this field, in MVNO Value, MVNO Value or Value, we will click on the text box so that a figure is generated automatically. In case no value is generated, we will have to mark the number '0008' without the quotes. This value is general, so it may vary depending on the telephone operator. It is advisable to contact our operator to configure this section correctly.
With the two fields assigned, we will save the APN that we have just configured through the Android options. Now we will only have to test the Internet Sharing function to verify its correct operation. In the event that the phone is unable to generate a network from the SIM's mobile network, we will have to contact our operator directly.
