We recently talked about the history of Android, from its first version to the predictable Android 8 O that will appear after summer. The eighth version of Android captures our interest a lot, however, sometimes the technological interest does not coincide with the practical application. And, as we have read in Android Headlines, Android 7 Nougat still has a minority use.
Marshmallow, the most used version
Despite the fact that the system was presented in September 2016, the updates have been irregular and in little order, so some phones have received it very recently, or it has not even happened. That is why, almost a year after its introduction, Android 7 Nougat is only used in 12% of the terminals.
What then is the most used system? Android 6 Marshmallow exceeds 32% of use, which makes it the most popular, followed by Android 5 Lollipop, which in its two main updates adds 29% of terminals. Then we would have the different versions of Android 4, Ice Crean Sandwich, Jelly Bean and KitKat, which together add up to 24%. The rest would be shared by the phones that still use Android versions 2.3, with which you can no longer opt for updates to programs such as WhatsApp.
The reasons for this, as we mentioned before, are more compatibility issues than taste. There is no doubt that Android 7 Nougat has included interesting improvements to its phones, such as the possibility of splitting the screen or grouped notifications. However, some issue unrelated to user preferences has meant that they simply cannot download the system on their phones.
Looking for those responsible would be too fine a thread, so the only thing we can say is that situations like this are harmful for users and developers, because some cannot enjoy the latest functions, and others helplessly assist that their news cannot be enjoyed. We will see what will happen when Android 8 O arrives, if Nougat will step aside or if a device migration process will begin with Marshmallow. As we have verified, the ways of Android are inscrutable.
