One of the most common problems of Samsung mobiles, and especially of the Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, S8, S8 Plus, S9, S10, Note 8, Note 9, A5 and A8 models has to do with the humidity sensor. The system appears to detect false positives, causing the charging port to be disabled to prevent a motherboard short. This warning is often accompanied by the following message: 'Moisture has been detected in the USB port. Disconnect the charging cable ' or' Moisture detected in charger port '. Depending on the source of the problem, the solution can be found in different methods, and this time we have compiled several of them to prevent the message from appearing again.
If your mobile has gotten wet, turn it off immediately and put it in rice
Have we wet the mobile recently? Have you been in a humid environment for a long period of exposure? The best thing in these cases is to turn off the mobile immediately to prevent moisture or liquid from generating a short circuit on the board.
Then, we will put the mobile in a bag with rice and let it rest until after the first 24 hours. In no case can we apply heat through a dryer or turn on the terminal before the first 24 hours. After the first day has passed, we can turn on the phone to check that the message - and the humidity - has disappeared.
Clean the charging port with a toothbrush
False positives from the humidity sensor can be caused by several factors. The first of these is that you have probably detected foreign bodies or specks of moisture. To rule out that it is a problem related to the hardware, we will have to clean the port with a toothbrush and isopropyl alcohol.
This process has to be carried out, as it could not be otherwise, with the mobile off. After applying the alcohol to the toothbrush, we will vigorously rub the area without damaging the integrity of the connection.
Or apply heat to the USB port area
To hopeless problems, drastic solutions. Although not recommended, a possible solution to the 'Moisture detected in USB port' message may be to apply heat to the connection area with a heat gun or dryer with an air filter installed. The latter is very important, because what we will have to avoid at all costs is to introduce air into the port, since it can cause the transfer of liquids to the motherboard.
With everything ready, we will turn off the phone and apply slight heat strokes about 15 centimeters from the charging port to prevent it from overheating. Later we will turn on the mobile and we will tell you the corresponding USB cable.
Stop the Android USBSettings process
If we have not subjected the terminal to an environment of humidity and liquids, it is likely that the problem is due to a software error, and more specifically to the Android USBSettings process, a process that is only found in Samsung mobiles.
Accessing this is as simple as going to the Applications and notifications section and clicking on the option to Show system processes found in the three points of the top bar. Then we will look for the process in question with the name mentioned above and we will access it until we reach the Storage section. In this section we will click on Clear cache and Clear storage.
Now we will only have to stop the process and restart the mobile in case the stop is not enough.
Restart the mobile and insert the charging cable
A somewhat original solution that users have reported in different forums is based on restarting the mobile and inserting the cable into the charging port. The way to proceed on this occasion is somewhat different than usual.
With the mobile off, we will place the charging cable at the entrance of the USB port without actually connecting it, as we can see in the image above. Later we will turn on the mobile and wait for the Samsung logo to disappear: it will be then that we will insert the charging cable completely into the USB port.
It should be noted that this method is a partial solution, since it is likely that the port or the humidity sensor has some type of error that we will have to solve with the replacement of the affected part.
Start the mobile in safe mode
Have you installed an application recently? It is likely that you have come into conflict with the USBSetting process of Samsung mobiles. We can check this by starting the phone in what is known today as Safe Mode.
This mode will start the system without third-party applications, and accessing it is as simple as holding down the Restart option once we have pressed the shutdown button for a few seconds. The wizard will ask us if we want to start the system in Safe Mode: we will accept the operation and wait for the system to restart. Finally we will introduce the charging cable once we are inside Android, never before.
Or do a Hard Reset
Perhaps the most drastic solution and the definitive test that will tell us if it is a hardware or software problem. To do a Hard Reset on a Samsung mobile we will have to follow the following steps:
- Press the Volume Up Button and Bixby at the same time
- Press the Power Button afterwards
If you have a Samsung mobile from 2017 backwards or without a Bixby button, the combination to apply is as follows:
- Press the Volume Up and Home Button at the same time
- Press the Power Button afterwards
Then a menu like the one we can see just below this paragraph will appear:
Of all the available options, the one that interests us is the one that says Wipe Data / Factory Reset. We will click on it and accept the application. It should be noted, of course, that all the data in the internal memory of the phone will be lost, such as the applications or the information contained in them. That is why it is recommended to make a backup copy to safeguard the most important data.
