Samsung returns to the load. Almost a month ago, we received a design patented by the Korean brand of what could be its folding phone. Now, the company is back in the news thanks to an even more futuristic design. This design would consist of a screen terminal that can be rolled around a rigid base.
This idea has appeared on the Internet thanks to the publication of some schemes that Samsung patented there in June 2017. These schemes, which were not known until now, presume that the brand has great interest in developing this kind of technology.
In these patents, we can actually observe two different designs. One of them would consist of a rigid and square base, from which the folding screen would come out. The fingerprint sensor appears on one of the sides of said base. It is speculated that, in said fingerprint sensor, the on and off button would also be found.
As for the other design, it is not far from the first. This second model would have a rounded base instead of a square one, and would have a stop at the other end of the screen. In addition, the patent specifies that, in both models, the screen would remain attached to said base thanks to a magnetic system.
A fairly familiar design for Samsung
It is true that there are already other companies that have previously presented prototypes similar to this one. Philips or LG are included among these brands, having presented designs of the same cut in previous years. And, although it seems like something totally new for Samsung, it is not. We are talking about the fact that, in 2016, the Korean manufacturer had already presented terminals with similar characteristics to the world. However, the patents for these designs mean that Samsung wants to bet heavily on this technology.
As for the appearance of a prototype with these characteristics, all we know is speculation. However, Koreans could be expected to present such a design during some 2018 tech event, such as MWC or CES.
