Although a large part of the followers of mobile telephony would know how to relate more than one mobile with the South Korean manufacturer Samsung without problems, the truth is that many of these users are probably not aware of a piece of information that has come to light during these days: Samsung has already launched more than 100 mobiles with Android operating system to the market. Taking into account that we are talking about a manufacturer that entered the commercial mobile phone market back in 2009, we are dealing with a company that -on average- has launched about 20 smartphones a year.
In fact, if we only count the original versions of each mobile (without taking into account alternative editions), we will see that Samsung has launched a total of 114 Android phones over the past five years. Taking a little trip back in time we can see that the first of Samsung's commercial mobiles to incorporate the operating system was the Samsung Galaxy (without further ado, although its technical name was i7500). It was a simple mobile (as viewed from the present perspective) incorporating a screen HVGA of 3.2 inches, a processor Qualcomm MSM7200A running at 528 MHz, 128 Megabytes of RAM and the Android operating system in its version of Android 1.5 Cupcake.
But if we want to find the first high-end mobile from this manufacturer, we have to go back to the first half of 2010. During this year we received the arrival of a mobile called Samsung Galaxy S, which incorporated a screen of four inches with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. It was a mobile much more similar to what today we consider as high-end telephony, although inside we find specifications that today are more than outdated: a single-core processor running at 1 GHz, memory RAM of 512 MegaBytesand, very curiously, a storage capacity of 16 GigaBytes (which is even above certain high-end mobiles that have reached the market in recent months, although it must also be said that this terminal was marketed with another version of 8 GigaBytes of internal memory). If we had to look for the most recent version of this terminal we should go back to the current flagship of this company: the Samsung Galaxy S5.
This little journey through the history of Samsung within the mobile phone shows us two things. The first is the incredible growth that mobile technology has had in recent years, since in a matter of five years the large manufacturers have managed to create a market that moves billions of euros a year. And the second is that the success strategy of this South Korean manufacturer is quite clear: to bring as many mobile phones to the market as possible to have a presence in all ranges of mobile telephony.
