It is only a rumor, but if in the end Samsung would be confirmed it would be the first company to launch a terminal with Android 3.0, also known as Gingerbread. Those responsible for this rumor are the users of the Android and me blog, who have commented that it could be ready by the end of the year, although only for testers. There has not yet been speculation about a real market launch. However, it is suspicious that Samsung has not presented new terminals for Christmas, with the exception of Continuum.
This Samsung terminal with Android 3.0 would be equipped with the latest technology from the Korean firm, such as AMOLED screens. It could also have an NFC (Near Field Communication) chip to support micro-payment services and contact data communication such as MasterCard's PayPass. What is not yet known is which possible operators would be involved in the distribution. According to the aforementioned blog, the sources that have disclosed this information are anonymous but reliable.
There are other possibilities around this new Samsung. For example, it has the Tegra 2 chipset from NVIDIA. And it is that recently, the CEO of NVIDIA announced that Samsung would be an important company in their business. It could also use Hummingbird technology, boosted up to 1.2 GHz, which is most likely called Garnett. And, most interestingly, it could incorporate Samsung's Orion dual-core processor. Regardless, this last feature is a bit up in the air, as Gingerbread is rumored to benot ready for this processor. In addition, Orion will go into production in 2011 so the possible dates of departure of this new Samsung terminal with Android 3.0 do not fit.
Until now Motorola Terminator was the phone that won all the pools in terms of the first mobile to incorporate Android 3.0. However, if we listen to the rumors of the famous blog, the Koreans could anticipate, and they have a lot of contact with Google lately. In fact, both are developing a tablet with HoneyComb, an update to Android. It remains to be seen that all these rumors come true. We will have to wait for this mobile to reach the hands of the testers or for Google and Samsung to decide to announce it officially.
