At the end of last year, the Korean Samsung placed its estimates of smartphone sales for 2010 at 18 million units. The bet then was strong: supposed to triple the number of terminals that were sold in 2009. However, the good results that have been registered so far this year have led the company's senior management to recalculate business expectations. And they have done it without fear of challenges, setting their goals at 25 million smartphones to be sold until December 31, 2010.
There is no bravado from Samsung this change of plans. Without having offered official figures, it is known that some of the great devices that the company includes in its catalog of smartphones are a success, such as the Samsung Galaxy S and variables (Samsung Vibrant, Samsung Epic 4G) that have already reached millionaire figures all over the world. The Samsung Wave is also a notable boost in the Korean's aspirations.
Knowing that the business with these terminals is proving to be the most lucrative, it would not be risky to think that, without specific data in hand, Samsung's sales in the field of smart phones have reached by now at a point very close to the aspirations they declared at the end of 2009.
That being the case, the seven million units increase in Samsung's sales expectations would be subject to the certainty that the last quarter of 2010 will be the most lucrative of the year. It is not a strange or free estimate: this year's Christmas campaign will feature smart devices, a sector in which Samsung has no qualms about including new models with frenzied frequency.
