The next thing from Samsung bears the cute name Samsung ? Smiley. The " smileys ", in Spanish emoticons, are graphic imitations of gestures using punctuation marks. Like the smile formed by a colon and the end of parentheses. They are a great help when it comes to clarifying messages, transmitting moods, and so on. It is therefore easy to deduce that it is aimed at a young audience used to chatting and sending text messages. A proposal similar to Samsung Corby, although it improves certain aspects and is not tactile.
As for the technical sheet, it reveals a mid-range device. At the moment it is available for the US market, where it is distributed by the operator T-Mobile (the same as Nexus One). Samsung has not yet communicated if it plans to market it in other countries. We will stay tuned to inform you if you decide to do so.
Design and display
Samsung ? Smiley, compact in appearance when folded, moves away from the square of many of the latest models of the South Korean company and opts for rounded finishes. On the other hand, the trackpad on the front is square, full of edges and an unusual ruby red. It is accompanied by four keys that activate different functions, such as making, ending, rejecting or accepting calls. At the ends you have a direct access to text messages and a return button. Finally, you have othertwo controls on the left and right of the trackpad that are used to select the applications that are in the same position in the menu.
The screen has a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and a depth of 256,000 colors. It is not tactile. To manage content, it has a sliding keyboard type QWERTY. An accessory that will facilitate the writing of SMS, emails or using instant messaging services. The alternative is coherent, given that we are facing a mobile oriented towards social networks and communication in general. Its size is 99.6 x 59.4 x 15 millimeters and it weighs 112.8 grams.
Connections and camera
Unlike the original Samsung Corby, Samsung ? Smiley is a 3G terminal. You will be able to surf the broadband Internet thanks to the UMTS protocol at 1,700 and 2,100 MHz. It reaches a data transfer speed up to 384 kbps. On the other hand, it offers support for WAP 2.0, xHTML and HTML. It operates on GSM frequencies at 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz, and GPRS and EDGE can be added through a class 32 multislot. It incorporates Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP profile. That is, it will link effectively with audio accessorieswhich are in turn equipped with the same standard. For example, hands-free kits or wireless headsets. It lacks WLAN. A shame because the free Wi-Fi connections enabled today in many shops, public enclaves, etc. are wasted. In the physical part we have a microUSB 2.0 port. The processor is rated at 184 MHz.
The camera is anecdotal. With a sensor of 1.3 megapixels, the images captured will have a quality very poor. It is hardly worth mentioning. Also shoots video, but has not specified the resolution. Anyway, it is easy to deduce that it will not be very high. It could be considered a calculation error, since sharing photos online is a feature highly valued by the public to whom the mobile is intended.
Multimedia and communicationIn contrast, the playback of multimedia files has not been neglected. It is compatible with MP3, eAAC + and WAV audio formats and with MP4, H.263 and H.264 video formats. At least, the functions of listening to music and watching recordings are assured. The internal storage is 50 MB, expandable up to a maximum of 16 GB using microSD memory cards. A sufficient capacity to house around 4,000 songs.
Samsung ? Smiley is one of the first models sponsored by T-Mobile with the Social Buzz app. Social Buzz groups together shortcuts to Facebook, MySpace and Twitter portals on a single home screen. The user can read in real time the status updates of their contacts, leave them comments and modify their own, as well as manage their profile in the different accounts. Regarding email, it provides support for Push Mail. Finally, by coming with JAVA, you can open games programmed with that language.
Drums
The lithium ion battery has a capacity of 1,000 milliamps. According to the manufacturer, it offers autonomy of up to 300 hours in standby and up to five and a half hours in conversation.
The best
The design is casual and the QWERTY keyboard is very comfortable when writing content. Also, it is inexpensive. Its price in the United States, with a contract, is 20 dollars, about 16.22 euros.
It can improve
Nowadays, a mobile with the profile of Samsung ? Smiley should not be allowed to have such a poor camera. WiFi is also missed.
