It is not enough for the Korean Samsung to be number one in world electronics: it also has to consolidate it. To do this, it seems that it will make use of two of its star consumer lines: mobile phones and televisions. According to Reuters, the Asian manufacturer is working on a hybrid platform between both types of devices.
The idea would be to create a system that operates interchangeably on home screens and on telephones, sharing functions. We already know that MeeGo or Android itself should offer similar services. But judging from the statements of Kyungsik Kevin Lee, vice president of the division of visual media company, it seems that the goal would not be to create a platform with appropriate adjustments as support, but it was exactly the same system which could work on televisions and mobile phones.
When asked about the moment when the platform would be ready so that developers could start working on applications for this system, Kyungsik Kevin Lee explained that at the moment it is difficult to guess dates. In any case, it seems more than evident that the experience will be carried out on televisions that the company itself already has on the market.
We are talking about the so-called Smart TVs, or smart televisions, which are nothing more than screens from a range that allow you to connect to the Internet, configure its functions with new personalized applications and include options to play a multitude of video, audio and image files from the own TV (with the help of external hard drives or memory sticks).
Precisely, from Samsung they expect this line of televisions to enjoy great success, reaching 5 million units during the next year. Regarding the name that this platform would receive, which would also be present on their smartphones, there is not yet a specific brand to name that possible operating system.
