The South Korean firm Samsung has already announced that soon the users of some of its equipment will receive an update notification, which is aimed at improving the security of said devices. The common denominator of the terminals that would be included in the improvement process is the processor. It would be one of the Exynos units, the company's native chip, either in its dual-core version or the quad-core edition.
Specifically, we are talking about the Exynos 4210 and Exynos 4412, respectively. In this sense, some of the teams involved are the Samsung Galaxy S2, Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 2, as well as the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet.
In a statement issued by the company itself, the situation is referred to by calling the users of their devices to calm down, where the problem is recognized and the scope of the matter is limited. They point out that, indeed, a vulnerability in the processor would allow malicious applications to access the memory of the computers.
However, they also point out that the applications that have been verified by Samsung and Google are out of those suspected of being causing the problems, so those who have been cautious with the downloads and installations, in principle should not be concerned about the situation. Be that as it may, the update would arrive shortly with a view to shielding the security of the affected devices.
The key in the matter, while finding the patch that avoids problems, is to be very careful with the applications we download. That is, avoid the Android option to download apps from unknown sources, so that programs, games and utilities can be transferred from the computer to add them manually without going through Google Play or Samsung Apps to our mobile and tablet.
In this sense, it is more than advisable to avoid this route, taking into account the need to take extreme precautions until Samsung releases its security update. It is also advisable to take a look at the latest comments from suspicious applications on Google Play to warn of possible problems registered in other users.
As soon as the update is available, we will inform you about it with a view to updating your phone or tablet and being able to breathe easy. There are already specialized collectives working on alternative solutions, such as the Cyanogenmod collective, as well as developers from XDA-Developers.
Although, it should be remembered that these alternative tools do not have the support and guarantee of the South Korean manufacturer. So its use is already the responsibility of each one, who assumes the risks. Either way, the best position to take is to have been cautious with app installs so far and stick with that policy until Samsung announces the launch of its official solution.
