No, this is not a joke. Since the presentation of the Samsung Galaxy Fold, the company has been registering a series of patents with a design similar to the aforementioned terminal. Last week we saw a flexible mobile attachable to the wrist. This time the manufacturer has registered a new patent related to a folding phone whose rear camera is removable. The mechanism in question would be very similar to that of current DSLR cameras, and will allow you to switch between different lenses in order to improve the photographic quality of the camera.
The next Samsung Galaxy Fold could have a removable camera
It is not the first time we have seen a mobile with a removable camera, but it is the first time that we have seen a phone with a flexible screen and a removable camera. It was precisely this morning when the South Korean company registered several dozen patents related to a mechanism very similar to that of reflex cameras.
As we can see in the images, the supposed phone would integrate a base on the back of the body whose possibilities would allow us to alternate between different lenses. The patent in question mentions that the device will have a non-removable internal camera to which different photography modules can be attached; specifically, stereoscopic modules aimed at improving the camera's optical zoom level. In this last aspect, it is not ruled out that the company presents a series of interchangeable lenses with different types of lenses (telephoto, wide angleā¦), similar to Motorola with its Moto Mods.
As for the screen format, the terminal will have a fold that will allow us to use the rear camera as a camera for selfies. Recall that the Huawei Mate X already integrates a similar mechanism, and it would not be surprising if Samsung presented something similar. The difference with this is that the terminal will only have a single phone format. No convertible tablets or dual-screen phones.
Last but not least, we must bear in mind that it is nothing more than a patent, so it is likely that it will end up being discarded as a final product. It remains to be seen if the company presents other folding phones parallel to the Samsung Galaxy Fold to compete with what is currently considered the best flexible phone on the market, the Huawei Mate X.
