The Samsung Galaxy Fold will be, together with the Huawei Mate X, the first flexible phone to hit the market during 2019. A couple of days ago the company confirmed the terminal's departure date in an official statement through its website. Now it is the same company that registers a new patent related to a new flexible phone model with two hinges and a design similar to what we saw yesterday with Xiaomi's flexible mobile.
This is what the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 might look like
The future of mobile technology seems to come hand in hand with folding screens. Since the presentation of the Galaxy Fold in mid-February, there have been many brands that have been presenting their prototypes and patent for a phone with a flexible screen.
The last to do so is Samsung itself, who just a few hours ago registered the design of a new patent related to a flexible double-fold phone. The terminal in question would have a design very similar to Xiaomi's flexible mobile, and its main advantage over the current Galaxy Fold is that it would only have a single screen, with both the economic and battery savings that this would entail.
Another detail to highlight is the integration of a band on the back to stiffen the part of the screen that does not fold. And it is that in addition to protecting the screen, it would also allow to couple the fold of the two parts of the screen when it was folded.
Regarding the screen format, Samsung would opt for a more traditional 16: 9 ratio in tablet mode and a ratio close to 1: 1 in phone mode. We lose the usual phone format but we get a ratio aimed at productivity and the use of several applications at the same time. It remains to be seen how the implementation of the cameras in the front solves, although everything indicates that they will be immersed in the frame of the screen itself.
As we usually warn in these cases, we must bear in mind that it is nothing more than a patent, so it is likely that it will end up being discarded as a final product or implemented in future models. We will have to wait until the end of 2019 or early 2020 to see if Samsung chooses to integrate these types of designs in its new generation of folding phones with a flexible screen.
