The fever for flexible mobiles after the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona continues to be present among the different telephone manufacturers. In addition to the Samsung Galaxy Fold and the Huawei Mate X, both companies have already announced that they will introduce new models with a flexible screen. The last to do so is Samsung, which, after the recent registration of several patents related to a new type of flexible phone, lets us see what the company's new terminals will be attachable to the wrist.
This could be the next Samsung Galaxy Fold adjustable to the wrist
This is not a rumor or a leak of dubious quality. It has been Samsung itself that has registered a series of new flexible phones with a common factor: they can all be wrapped around the user's wrist.
As we can see in the images provided by Samsung, the phones would have a traditional design very similar to the Samsung Galaxy S7 with the exception that the screen would be flexible. The size of the panel, much higher than that of the aforementioned mobile of the brand, would allow us to roll the screen over the body of the supposed Galaxy Fold, in such a way that it simulates the arrangement of a common smart bracelet. Within this, we would find a fingerprint sensor similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy S10.
For the rest, the terminal would be based on a mechanism similar to that of the current Samsung Galaxy Fold, with a series of hinges that will allow the terminal to be bent up to 360º. The only flat part that we would find would be the one that houses the upper part of the screen, with the main speaker and the two cameras presiding over the front and the back of the phone. As for the location of the battery, it could foreseeably be located within the flat part of the terminal, although it is not ruled out that it is divided into small cells within each hinge of the rear part.
We must bear in mind that the phone is nothing more than a patent, so it is very likely that it will not finally reach the market. The design of the terminal, no matter how striking, leaves serious doubts today, especially in what has to do with the battery and the mechanism used to fold the screen. Either way, it's interesting to see how companies compete to build the best folding phone design, even if they don't end up seeing the light of day.
