It was presented at the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona this year 2010, although until now it had not yet entered the catalog of offers of the operators in our country. Now it has been known that the new Samsung Onix S5620, an affordable terminal where they exist, will be available at very cheap prices or even from zero euros through the main companies: Movistar, Orange, Vodafone and Yoigo.
The Korean Samsung has included this mobile phone within its range of touch terminals to win over those users who are already seeking to enter the touch world. Even so, it must be said that we are facing a phone with basic features, whose potential audience has a preference for rather simple phones, but above all, cheap ones. But let's take a closer look at this Samsung Onix S5620.
Display and layout
It is an inexpensive phone, but its design responds to that of a powerful and elegant terminal. Even so, it must be said that the Samsung Onix is designed for users who flee from complications when it comes to accessing the functionalities of their mobile phone. At the bottom, we will also find the buttons to receive, reject, hang up or make calls.
The screen in question measures three inches, the widest dimensions for an affordable terminal. In addition, we are facing a capacitive screen, for which an electronic pen or stylus is not needed, but will allow us to manage applications with our fingers. It has a WQVGA 400 x 240 pixels and format 16: 9 widescreen. As if this were not enough, and like the iPhone and other advanced terminals, the new Samsung Onix incorporates an accelerometer so that when you turn the phone, the screen changes its horizontal and vertical format.
Connectivity
As we said at the beginning, the Samsung Onix S5620 is an affordable mobile phone, but at the same time, it is still a competent terminal. In this sense, we can access 3G connectivity. In fact, the mobile phone is compatible with UMTS and HSDPA networks at 900 and 2,100 MHz, transferring data at 7.2 kbps. At the same time, it supports EDGE and GPRS protocols at 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz. In addition, with the Samsung Onix S5620 we can access Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth 2.1.
The terminal has a USB 2.0 port that will be useful to us when you connect it to your computer to transfer or synchronize data, plus an audio output standard 3.5 mm. The phone has an internal memory of 200 MB, but can be expanded up to 16GB thanks to the microSD card reader. This will allow us to store large amounts of data, photos, videos or music files.
Photographic and multimedia camera
The camera is not one of the strengths of this Samsung Onix, since it only has a 3.2 megapixel sensor that we will not offer great quality when taking pictures. Even so, the phone incorporates a geolocation system to tag the photos according to the place where they were taken. The camera incorporates a smile detector, facial recognition and panoramic mode.
The camera also records video in low quality. We would be talking about a QVGA resolution (240 x 320 pixels) and 15 frames per second, with the possibility of saving them in H.263, H.264 and MPEG 4 formats. In addition, the phone is capable of playing audio in MP3, AAC, AAC +, Windows Media Audio (WMA), Poly 64, SP-Midi and i-melody formats. Radio amateurs will also enjoy FM radio with RDS.
Operating system and battery
For the occasion, Samsung has opted for the TouchWiz 2.0 user interface, whose main functionalities have to do with haptic feedback, a system that makes the phone vibrate every time we press the screen. With your finger we can drag the widgets to the position that suits us best. Thanks to the Microsoft Exchange Sync and Google Sync applications, the user can access their favorite applications and interact with the most popular social networks: Facebook, Twitter, Bebo and Myspace.
The phone has a 1000 mAh battery that, in principle, should support 300 minutes connected to 3G and 600 minutes with 2G. In standby mode, the battery could last up to 450 hours and 769 hours, respectively.
Feedback
This is a good terminal that stands out especially for its wide connectivity options, but also for the fact that it is available to customers at a very affordable price. The only problem with this phone is its 3.2 megapixel camera only. It would be appreciated that incorporate sensor at the least five megapixels, which gave us the opportunity to obtain an acceptable quality photographs.
