Is Samsung Health giving you trouble? Many users have reported problems with the step counter. Some users do not count the steps well, and others do not directly record the activity.
Although it may be an app update problem, there are some tricks you can apply to try to solve this Samsung Health failure.
Disable battery optimization
Mobile devices have several options to optimize battery performance. For example, the adaptive battery, as you see in the picture:
This setting limits the use in certain applications if it detects that we do not use them frequently. And this can create conflicts with the operation of some apps. So it is a possibility that you can consider to solve this problem in the step counter.
So go to Settings and check the battery settings, if you have any optimization or energy saving options in operation, deactivate. And test if Samsung Health works correctly again in this way.
Another option is to go to Optimize battery use and in the list of apps look for Samsung Health and deactivate it so that it remains as “app not optimized”. This little trick has worked for some users.
Pause step counter
Other options you can try is to disable the step counter. It seems silly but it works for a reason, and that is that when you activate it again it will show a message if there is a problem that prevents this action.
If you want to try it, just go to the menu of the three dots as you see in the image.
Conflicts with connected devices
Some users have noticed that Samsung Health has trouble displaying “all steps” logged from different devices. If the same thing happens to you it may be a synchronization problem, so try disconnecting and reconnecting each gadget.
And a detail that you should not forget is that the app allows you to choose between seeing "All steps" combining the activity of all connected devices, or showing only a certain gadget in the panel, as explained and illustrated in the Center of Samsung Help
App problems with non-Samsung mobiles
If we review the forums we will see that many users who have problems with the step counter have Huawei, Xiaomi, and other brands far from the Samsung ecosystem.
While some apps cause conflicts on certain devices or customization layer settings make some features difficult, this does not appear to be the case for Samsung Health.
But if the suggestions we mentioned earlier haven't worked for you, try some basic options:
- Uninstall the app, clear the cache and reinstall. This can solve a conflict that has been created with the app.
- Verify that you have the latest Samsung Health update.
- Check the permissions. If you have touched device settings, you may have removed some permission from Samsung Health preventing it from recording your activity.
- Review the Samsung Health settings, for example, make sure you have the option "Detect training" and the notification of steps activated.
If you think that Samsung Health returns to normal by applying some of these options, but you do not trust that it counts the steps correctly, install a second similar app. For example, install Google Fit and compare the results of both apps when recording your steps.
