To kick off the year with smart touch phones, the Korean Samsung has just introduced the Samsung Gem. It is a mid-range terminal that, although it has not yet revealed its price, is anticipated as a device that could be within reach of almost all pockets. Just take a look at its features to see that we are not looking at a phone from another galaxy, but with a device that anyone who is interested in starting in the field of smartphones could have.
The sale date of this has not been known either. However, at least it has been seen in images and the result is very attractive to its target audience. It is a compact mobile, very handy and with front buttons for those who want to manage some commands with keys of a lifetime. By the way, it works with the Google system, although in a simpler version than the last model: Android 2.1 Eclair.
One thing that stands out about the Samsung Gem is that both the central home button and the rear camera area are designed with a diamond- shaped relief that comic book lovers will recognize as a nod to Superman's shield.
Beyond the anecdotal, the Samsung Gem has a 3.2-inch touchscreen. We do not know if it is capacitive or resistive, although it is most likely the first option. The camera, on the other hand, has a resolution of three megapixels, which, although it may sound insufficient, may be appropriate for a not very demanding audience.
Something that is striking is that despite the Samsung Gem's mid-range profile, the phone equips an 800 MHz processor, somewhat above what we find in mobiles from other firms that are part of the first line of smart terminals. Although it has not been specified, everything indicates that the combo of connections of the Samsung Gem will include 3G, Wi-Fi and GPS.
