During the last days, a multitude of rumors related to the housing of the future Galaxy S5 from the South Korean company Samsung have been appearing. Currently there are three possible materials for the housing of this terminal: metal, plastic or leather. While the possibility that the Samsung Galaxy S5 had a leather case was recently known, this time everything indicates that metal can definitely be removed from the list of possible case materials.
The materials that make up today's mobile terminals are generally manufactured in companies located in Asian countries. That is why these companies are often the best source of news related to smartphones. The Taiwanese manufacturers responsible for the production of the Galaxy S5 have reported that they have not received any mass orders for metal cases, as reported by the English-language edition of the Chinese daily DigitTimes.
Taking into account that there are a few months left for the launch of this terminal, it would be quite unlikely that Samsung could get the amount of metal cases necessary to meet the demand for terminals that it would receive in the first days of the device's life.
And what is all this fuss about with a theme as peculiar as that of carcasses? It turns out that Samsung has come under fire in recent months - especially with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S4 - for its determination to continue to use plastic cases. These cases have the downside that they are quite fragile to the touch and convey a feeling that has aroused many detractors around the world.
The question that arises from this information is the following: why change a strategy that has been successful in the market for several years? Even with all the criticism received about the material of the covers of Samsung smartphones, the South Korean company managed to position itself this year among the best-selling brands in the world. Terminals such as the Samsung Galaxy S3 or the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 have plastic casings and during 2013 they have fought for the top positions in the sales of the mobile telephony sector.
Another reason that leads to think about the non-viability of metal cases in the Galaxy S5 is the fact that metal is not exactly an economical material in terms of manufacturing costs. In the event that Samsung considered the possibility of including a new material in their cases, they would probably choose any other much cheaper alternative. Here different materials come into play: from the previously mentioned leather case to a case that includes some plastic alloy that will be just as economical for Samsung.
