Goodbye to the notch and hello to the hole on screen
Samsung has us used to setting trends and not following those already established. Its terminals have a differential design line, since 2018 we have seen countless terminals with the notch or notch, but Samsung has not fallen into this trend. Instead we have a hole in the screen where the cameras are housed, this is achieved thanks to the panel called Infinity-O Display. This certainly makes it possible to avoid the much-hated notch or notch, but at the same time it is a risky bet due to its novelty and the general fear of “losing” information on the screen. It is without a doubt an interesting bet and possibly the new trend in the high-end of 2019.
This hole in the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G is more elongated compared to the Samsung Galaxy S10e or the Samsung Galaxy S10, this is because it has two lenses on its front. By diverting attention from the upper right side, we find a screen of considerable size. They are 6.7 inches with Quad HD + resolution or 3,040 x 1,440 pixels in 19: 9 format, the lateral curvature and characteristic of Samsung terminals is still present only that now it is much more subtle to view. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glas 6, resistant to drops from a safe distance as well as scratches.
The panel technology is not Super AMOLED, but Dynamic AMOLED. It is the logical evolution of the technology developed by Samsung for its screens, it has improvements in colors, brightness and contrast. In addition, it includes compatibility for content consumption standards such as HDR10, with which we will enjoy movies with a greater dynamic range, more realistic colors and improvements in the depth of darker colors. It is a screen worthy of a high-end Samsung.
The general design is sober and elegant, its front with a large screen and frames reduced to a practically minimum to offer an immersive experience. The button panel is divided, on the left side frame we have the volume control and the Bixby assistant button while on the right side is the unlock button. Turning the terminal we see the rear protected by Corning Gorilla 5, where the triple camera stands out in a horizontal position placed at the top. Just below we have the logo of the brand and the differential seal that indicates its compatibility with 5G networks. The USB Type-C and 3.5mm jack connection ports are located on the bottom frame next to the speaker.
5G networks are the future
In Spain, the deployment of 5G networks at a general level is expected very soon. This technology will allow sending and receiving data at high speeds with minimal latency. At the moment we can wait for the telephone companies to make the change, but not for this reason the terminal manufacturers have to wait. Samsung in particular has decided to bet on these networks from now on. The Samsung Galaxy S10 5G is the clear example of this, it is compatible with all the advantages provided by these networks (speed of 10,000 Mbps and latency of 1-2 milliseconds). It achieves this thanks to its processor and the LTE Cat.20 + 5G connection modem.
To the last in processors and with an enviable autonomy
Samsung has its own processors, every year it updates and improves its new batch so that it is prepared and performs before any last generation application. Inside the chassis we have the eight-core Exynos built in 8 nanometers that we see in the rest of its brothers, this processor is accompanied by 8GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. Storage is not expandable via microSD. The battery capacity is the largest of the four terminals, it is 4,500 mAh. A good amount if we take into account the diagonal of your screen and its resolution.
Still, Samsung has included both wired and wireless fast charging. The fast cable charge is 25W which allows to charge the terminal in less time if we need a push to terminal the day. In addition, if we have a terminal compatible with wireless charging, the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G will be able to charge it, we will only have to support the other terminal on the back of Samsung.
3D sensor cameras
The photographic section has always been a strong point of Samsung terminals. The implementation of different types of sensors for different situations is a strategy that we have seen in other terminals of the South Korean firm. The Samsung Galaxy S10 5G has sensors for 3D scanning both on the front and on the back of the terminal. The firm has not given many details about its operation, but it surely has to do with the facial scan.
There are three sensors for photography on the rear, two of them 12 megapixels with OIS optical stabilization. They are intended for different situations, so one sensor is wide-angle with variable aperture, focal f / 1.5 to focal f / 2.4 while the other is a telephoto sensor with focal f / 2.4, the main sensor of the three is 16 wide-angle and focal f / 2.2 megapixels. On the front, in the hole reserved for the cameras, we have a 10 megapixel dual pixel sensor with an f / 1.9 focal length. All the sensors of the terminal have autofocus.
Price and availability
Samsung has not specified details about its availability or price, it has been rather to give the news about its first terminal compatible with 5G networks. He has only indicated a probable period in which we will see this new terminal, and it will be in the summer of 2019. The price will be according to its characteristics, and taking into account that it is a high-end terminal, it will not be cheap. We look forward to testing the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G so we can give you our first impressions.
