The interest of Samsung Galaxy S users to update to the new version of the operating system, Android 2.2 Froyo, is enormous. In Spain, the update process has already begun for users who have a mobile through Vodafone. Of course: it will be essential to have the Samsung Kies application installed on the PC (it is not compatible with Linux or Mac, and in the case of the latter, the only solution is to use consoles such as BootCamp to do it from a virtualized Windows).
At the moment Movistar has not clarified when the update process for the Samsung Galaxy S will begin with the operator's profile, and after the announcement by Samsung last night, the concern has gripped some users. And is that as reported by the Korean manufacturer, some models of the Samsung Galaxy S may not be updated to Android 2.2 Froyo until 2011.
Of course, the announcement has been made referring to the American versions of the Samsung Galaxy S (Samsung Vibrant, Samsung Captivate or Samsung Fascinate, among others). Specifically, some US and Canadian operators have called their users to calm down, informing that since the update process must be done in a staggered way through Kies (and not by OTA update, or what is the same, by wireless download over the air), not all regional operators will be able to give way to their customers simultaneously to install the new edition of Android.
So far, everything seems to indicate that the Movistar Samsung Galaxy S will not suffer this delay, which has been delaying for months in general, and since last November 11 in particular, which was when it was supposed that the European Samsung Galaxy S could have update to Froyo started.
