The Samsung Galaxy Grand Max is one of the latest additions to the South Korean company Samsung's Grand range. This is a mid- range smartphone that is presented with a 5.25-inch screen, a quad- core processor, Android operating system in its version of Android 4.4.2 KitKat and a starting price close to $ 300. The Samsung Galaxy Grand Max at the moment has only been presented in Asian territory, so we do not know if its launch will also be produced in Europe.
Let's get to know this smartphone better in the following review of the Samsung Galaxy Grand Max.
Display and layout
The Samsung Galaxy Grand Max is a couple of steps away from entering what we could consider as a phablet . This terminal incorporates a screen TFT of 5.25 to reach a resolution HD, that is, a resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels, thus giving the result to a pixel density of 280 ppi.
We are talking about a screen large enough to use the Samsung Galaxy Grand Max both to read documents and to surf the Internet or watch movies and series. The resolution is somewhat simple, although we must not forget that it is a mid-range mobile and that, therefore, this resolution is the most common within this type of range.
The design of the Samsung Galaxy Grand Max does not add any particularly striking novelty to the usual look of Samsung's mid-range smartphones. The most striking part of this smartphone resides in the back cover, where you can see a design that seems to simulate the appearance of leather through some type of plastic material.
The exact measurements of the Samsung Galaxy Grand Max are set at 146 x 74.8 x 7.9 mm, while the weight -battery includes- reaches 161 grams. The Grand Max from Samsung will be available in white and black colored.
Camera and multimedia
There are two cameras that we can find in the Samsung Galaxy Grand Max. The main camera, built on the back cover, has a sensor 13 megapixel accompanied by a Flash LED. In principle, this is a camera that should offer good quality in pictures (with a maximum resolution of 4,128 x 3,096 pixels) and videos (with a maximum resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels at 30 frames per second).
The secondary camera, located on the front, is likely to catch the eye of selfie lovers. This is a camera that incorporates a sensor five megapixels and a lens with a viewing angle of 120 degrees, which translates into a very wide field of view when taking a picture of self-profile. In other words, we are talking about a camera that can be useful when taking group self-profile photographs.
The video and audio formats with which the Samsung Galaxy Grand Max multimedia player is compatible have not yet been confirmed, although without a doubt we can be sure that this mobile can play files with an MP4, MP3, WAV or H extension. .264, among others.
Processor and memory
The Samsung Galaxy Grand Max is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 (model MSM8916) processor running at a clock speed of 1.2 GHz. The graphics processor is the usual Adreno 306, while the RAM capacity is set at 1.5 GigaBytes.
The internal memory that the Samsung Galaxy Grand Max comes from the factory is available in a single version of 16 GigaBytes of capacity. Of course, it must be taken into account that all smartphones with Android operating system incorporate files installed by the manufacturers, and the space that these files occupy means that the real internal memory of this mobile is reduced to approximately 12 GigaBytes.
Even so, the capacity of the internal memory of this mobile can be expanded by means of an external microSD card of up to 64 GigaBytes.
Operating system and applications
The operating system installed by default in the Samsung Galaxy Grand Max corresponds to Android. It has not yet been confirmed whether it is the Android 4.4.2 KitKat version or the Android 4.4.4 KitKat version, but anywhere we can confirm that this terminal does not include the most recent version of Lollipop as standard. It remains to be seen if Samsung will update the Grand Max to Android 5.0 Lollipop later this year.
The Samsung Galaxy Grand Max incorporates the TouchWiz customization layer and, in addition, it also has a multitude of applications installed as standard - both by Samsung and by Google -. Among these applications we find Google Chrome, Gmail, Google+, Google Maps or the Google Play Store, in addition to basic applications such as Phone, Contacts, Browser or Camera.
Connectivity and autonomy
Wireless connectivity of the Samsung Galaxy Grand Max is composed of the 4G LTE of Internet ultra-fast (in Category 4, ie, up to 150 Mbps download speed and up to 50 Mbps upload speed), 3G, WiFi (802.11 a / b / g / n), GPS (a-GPS and GLONASS) and Bluetooth 4.0. And, in addition, also FM Radio.
Physical connectivities mobile this are formed by an audio output (of 3.5 mm, headphone plug), a microUSB 2.0 port (to transfer files and charge the battery), a microSD card slot (ie card external memory) and a Micro-SIM card slot.
The battery that incorporates inside the Samsung Galaxy Grand Max has a capacity of 2,500 mAh.
Price and availability
The Samsung Galaxy Grand Max has only been presented in Asian territory. In the coming weeks we will know if its availability will also include the rest of the world. Its starting price is yet to be confirmed, although everything points to a figure close to 300 dollars (that is, about 300 euros to the change that is usually applied in this type of products).
