Samsung's new security patch for its Galaxy models, corresponding to the month of November 2018, is now official. And before rolling out the update file, the Korean brand usually makes its content public. However, for certain terminals this patch was already available to be downloaded and installed.
The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime was the first terminal to receive the November security patch. Later, the tablet Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 Active and last year's terminal Samsung Galaxy A3 will be updated. What can users of these devices find in Samsung's new November security patch?
Samsung's November Security Patch Fixes Several Holes
Samsung's new patch fixes up to 11 critical vulnerabilities discovered within the Android system. Additionally, we can also find solutions for nearly two dozen high- and moderate-risk vulnerabilities. What is the biggest risk that users have been facing and until now they have not had a solution? The security hole would have allowed the attacker to use a special file to be able to execute arbitrary code.
This latest version of the patch also contains fixes for 8 items of 'Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposure', specifically it fixes the problem of notification leaks. What does this mean? Well, a failure in the proper handling of the 'independent DeX' mode allowed different unauthenticated users to see the incoming notifications of a terminal as well as their own content, even if the phone was locked and the lock screen configured not to show the content of the notifications.
The brand's mid-range terminals are the first to receive security patches and this one will not be an exception. Then, the more advanced range will go. If the download notification still does not appear, you can see, manually, if you already have it available in the updates section in the phone settings. It is also recommended that you follow certain guidelines when updating your terminals so that everything goes well.
Recommendations when updating our phones
- Our phone must have enough battery for the process to be successful. Do not install anything on the phone if, at least, it does not have between 60% and 100% autonomy. If the phone were to turn off in the middle of an update process, you could be left without a phone.
- It is recommended that you make a backup copy of the content of the phone. Updating the terminal does not lead to the loss of the files but, in case something goes wrong and you have to format it, it is always good to have a copy on hand.
- Do you have enough space on your mobile so that the security file can be installed? Try an application to free up space like Files Go by Google and so you can download it without problems.
- The update patch download files are usually quite heavy, so we recommend that you wait to download it when you are under a WiFi connection. Otherwise, you can run out of data or get a surprise at the end of the month on the invoice.
